Peggy Noonan and The WSJ Editorial - It's Time to Revolt!
Red State ^ | June 1, 2007

Posted on 06/01/2007 5:41:16 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

Try this clip on for size :

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.

For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

Well hey, I’d rather be boring than a criminal... At least no one has ever been bored to death.

I wondered how long it would take you to run to the mods. You are really something. Let me know if he kisses it and makes it all better. boo boos can really get tough sometimes. (Hi, Jim)

First, Jim... I didn’t mean to bring you into this in this way, and for that Í apologize...

Dreams, I’m not “running to the mods” my dear.

I just thought Jim should be aware of the things you are saying, especially as you are very new to the forum and we’ve been having a lot of problems with trolls on these boards in the last few months, and I’ve never before had such a problem with the type of comments and “debate” I’ve gotten from you tonight Dreams. If I was indeed running to the MODS, as you said, I would’ve addressed that post to the Admin Moderator.

Oh, and I’m not hurt by anything you’ve said. You still have yet to prove how I’m a liar (B. Chezwick has clearly labeled all those who oppose this bill as racists and xenophobes), and you’ve still yet to prove where I equated terrorism and ID Theft.

I don’t appreciate the type of “debate” you’ve attacked me with in our exchange here tonight. I’m a grown-up, and for you to think I’m ‘hurt’ by the things you’ve said to me is ridiculous. If I respected you I might care...

Now, if we’re truly done here I’ll say goodnight to you (and really mean it this time), and we can be done with this. I think you and I might be better off agreeing to disagree at this point before it gets any nastier, agreed???

“There, for anyone wondering why I am so “soft” on immigration, I have now “outed” myself!”

Excuse me for asking but, are you a legal resident? (not that it matters .....I have some associates that I believe to be illegal)

Perhaps you could take your ministry to the countries where it might be better served. Cleaning up their own countries should be a priority not, straining ours. We are all children of God but, disregard for the laws of this nation is one of your basic sins. (trespass against another.)

Right now I am listening to "Yellow Submarine" on my MP3 list, which is (although I have paid for the album in the past) technically "illegal." (IOW...you're a thief)

I have, even today, broken the laws regulating speed limits. (A scofflaw)

More than that, I have been legally drunk while driving, reported, (potentially a killer)

shoplifted, (well, we know you're a thief).

insulted and assaulted a police officer, (violent and stupid)

bought and sold enough illicit drugs to be an amateur pharmacist...,(a drug dealer)

and other things best left unmentioned (my life has been colorful!). (Criminal - not colorful)

Excuse me for asking but, are you a legal resident?

First answer, (cut and pasted)
It is also amusing to see the snotty accusations that people have left about me and my rxns on this issue, ranging from being Latino myself, to having parents who are illegals, to profiting from them in some way, to being a DU liberal.

not that it matters .....

so if it doesn't matter, why do you ask?

Second answer
Yes. born here with no latino relatives in any shape manner or form.

Guess you will have to try the "he's a liberal" crock. My God but you people hit a rut and just can't seem to get out of it.

Perhaps you could take your ministry to the countries where it might be better served.

I don't have a "ministry." I just have some friends whom I love.

Your response looks like something the church lady would have come up with. Prudish, moralistic, self righteous, condemning, and disgusting. Perhaps even speaking with me would pollute you. Are you sure you are safe? Maybe I could... figure out a way to trace your IP. Have you checked the locks on your doors? Shouldn't you report me to someone?

I am so PROUD of you that you are good, righteous and clean. Should I throw myself at your feet and beg for mercy?

“so if it doesn’t matter, why do you ask?”

Since you’re just another anonymous figure on this forum, I’m seeking POV. (btw; kudos for being honest and forthcoming)

“My God but you people hit a rut and just can’t seem to get out of it.”

Seems you’re not that proud of your heritage or you wouldn’t have such a chip on your shoulder. Your blanket statements are insulting.

“I don’t have a “ministry.” I just have some friends whom I love.”

My FRiend, if you are preaching God’s word to a group, that is a *ministry*. Hopefully you're preaching of the sins of breaking the laws of a country that has been more than fair to the illegal population.

Oh no I would not. Although the activities I described are all long past except for speeding, (which I am also sure you NEVER do, you pillar of virtue!), and listening to music I HAVE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR in a format that the RIAA tells me is illegal because I downloaded it....., I do have fond memories of the the few, the proud, the righteous. They and you would NEVER be friends with crooks or drunks or whores. They and you are all into KEEPING THE RULES because in the rules is safety and goodness. They and you are too busy condemning the scum that surrounds them to ever check if their own goodness might not be as up to snuff as you advertise.

Keep building and advertising your good and virtuous record. I hope it does you well. I prefer another approach, which is that of being a "friend" to crooks, whores, and drunks. I read about it once in a book and I liked the person who took that approach so much I decided to pick it up and try it for my own. Sad thing about the guy who flacked for that approach. All the good and righteous people, so proud of their record, lied about him and had him killed. He had the audacity to tell them their records were nothing but crap! They were so GOOD you see, that they must have been doing the right thing, don't you think? The idea that PEOPLE trump punctiliousness is just the lie that scofflaws use to justify their rule breaking!

You are most correct. THANK YOU. You have actually encapsulated and illustrated better than I ever could, the huge chasm that exists between some freepers on this issue and myself.

Although I find your view revolting, I do appreciate the crystal clarity with which you set it forth.

Best of luck in establishing your righteous record. Mine sucks so bad I have to look elsewhere, and so do my scummy friends.

Hopefully you’re preaching of the sins of breaking the laws of a country that has been more than fair to the illegal population.

Right now we are focusing on the sins of self reliance, self righteousness, self-pleasing, self adoration, self assurance, self seeking, and the failure to acknowledge that God’s righteous standard demands utter perfection in all thoughts, words, deeds and plans. Plus the REALLY big sin of refusal to acknowledge the fact that Christ’s death in itself is a statement that we are utterly and hopelessly morally bankrupt with no chance of EVER pleasing God with ANY of our activity. Finally, we talk about how the ONLY motivation for life is a “thank you” and “live thru me” approach.” Once I can get that hammered out in my own life, and can get these guys over that same set of hurdles, then we will doubtless try to hammer out how Romans 12 meshes with the rest of scripture on justice, mercy, and how being illegal affects them as Christians. Thanks

When you legalize all of these folks all you will be doing is creating a market for another batch of cheaper workers. All of a sudden those workers who had been doing those jobs that Americans won't do will be transformed into Americans who won't do the jobs that Illegals do.

History has shown this since 1942. Add the entitlements paid for by tax payers, misguided Judges, corrupt politicians/business owners and those who steal, i.e illegal immigrants, you have a serious problem on your hands. Please jveritas look at the history of Bracero program, the 1965 Immigration Act and the 1986 Amnesty Act. With every "guest worker" came illegals. Why is that you think?

“Far from mitigating illegal immigration, the two countries’ last major temporary worker program actually initiated and accelerated its flow. During the so-called bracero program from 1942 to 1964, the number of unauthorized Mexicans slipping across the border actually expanded in parallel with the number of authorized temporary workers; the illegal flows then continued to accelerate after the program’s termination.” 'The Mirage of Mexican Guest Workers', Philip Martin and Michael Teitelbaum

After Bracero ended in 1964, the 1965 Immigaration Act (Which promises Ted Kennedy, sound familiar, never came about) illegal immigration increased more but THE WARNINGS OF THOSE WHO OPPOSED THIS ACT CAME TO PASS and add this to all the entitlements of the mid-60's/70's and you have yourself one huge spending problem.

Sarcasm is childish. By your own proud admission you are a thief, drug dealer, violent offender, drunk and whore-monger.

All of these things required decisions on your part. You chose the low-road and want to be excused as having a 'colorful' past. That's bull. Sailing across the Atlantic, motorcycling cross country, thumbing through Europe, working a CG Cutter to Antartica...those are colorful. Hanging out on skid row with thieves, drunks and whores is just pathetic. Trying to paint yourself as Christ-like to justify your tastes is beyond pathetic.

Whores, thieves, drug dealers and drunks never built anything. You and your low-life pals contribute nothing but trouble and tear away at the fabric of society.

Maybe you need to feel messianic to justify the choices you have made but the rest of us know a low-life when we see one. Character counts.

For a while you offended me
Then you disgusted me
Now you bore me

If I wanted to be a prude I had plenty of examples at the local church where I learned to hate Jesus, until I opened the bible and found out he wasn't like that, or you, at all.

I fell in love with HIM, and vowed NEVER to be a part of the malingering, fraudulent, humbuggery that goes on in the name of moralistic sophistry. Unfortunately, I did not keep that promise, and when I was rescued from my deviancies, I began to look down my nose at those I used to be like. I had rather die than go back that attitude. As a matter of fact, I know from personal experience that the proud moralist is WORSE than the profligate. There is a story somewhere about that. Something about inheritances and whores and drunkenness and pig food and older brothers and the love of a father. Maybe you have read it? I am not interested in your moralism. Go away.

My moralism bores you? Too effin bad.

What you call my moralism is nothing more than the social standard that says that violent drunks, thieves, whores and drug dealers are bad for society. They are not colorful, but undesirable because of their actions, choices, lack of character and immorality.

You decide to live the low life and blame the 'church' for your lack of character. Then you want to lecture those who did not choose to call skid row home on morality. I doubt that many here, where conservative values and character have meaning, would agree with your self-assessment.
