When they were stopped from going to the Salt Lake City offices of Utah's two U.S. senators Thursday, about 60 anti-illegal-immigration activists started singing "God Bless America."
The group, mostly white men and women of retirement age, showed up at the Federal Building to demand that Republican Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch vote against S.1348, the recent immigration reform proposal.
Most of the group consider the proposal amnesty because it would provide a path to legal status for the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants nationwide through a guest worker program, where they would have to pay a $5,000 fine to get a visa.
Wally McCormick said Utahans concerned about illegal immigration and border security started visiting the senators' offices about four weeks ago. The first week, about 10 people showed up. The following week, 20 came. And the numbers keep increasing.
McCormick said they'll continue to show up at the offices until the senators accept their request to meet with them or they see some changes.
"They're just ignoring the citizens," McCormick said. "They are not our leaders, they are our representatives."
Richard Nielsen, a South Jordan resident, was upset because he wasn't able to visit either senator's office.

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Links don’t work.
Disgraceful when a Senator is afraid of his own Constituents.

Katie, bar the door ! There's WHITE people in UTAH ?!? Who wrote this article ?
More ‘good’ news although not as dramatic ....... heard an interview with Ben ‘Afflicted’. He was talking about the Democrats and every other word was the f-bomb because he was more than a little incensed with them for not cutting off funding for the war. As with most liberals, when unable to express himself intelligently, he resorted to profanity. I didn’t enjoy the profanity, but his abject fury and frustration with the Dems made my day and I’m still laughing.
For whatever my word is worth around here, I am swearing to you, that I will do everything I can to see that these clowns never, ever hold a place in the public trust again.
Their elitist, insulting, condescending attitudes alone- not to mention their positions- warrant their never holding public office, in any capacity, ever again.
Let them work in the private sector, and attempt to make an honest living. Rather than as political whores...
bttt
And isn’t it tellling that our third-rate papers in this country won’t identify the race of a non-white wanted criminal on the loose or a terrorist’s religion, but you have a bunch of 60-year old retirees fighting for their beliefs and practicing democracy, and by gosh, they’re “WHITE!!!!”
Seems to me the author of this article is a racist bitch, pardon my French. Won’t hold my breath waiting for her to be fired.
I guess its getting a little hot for the Senators.
This is true democracy, or mob rule. We have arrived.
The ROYAL politicians know better than the citizens. Vote against everyone in public office. Screw the GOP too!!
The one bright spot in the demise of this once-great nation is that the liberals are as fed up with the pols they elected as the conservatives are with theirs.
We share something....total disgust when GWB and Pelosi got together to screw us all.
If you pay money to get a visa, it's not a fine, it's a fee. And because it's not a fine, it's not a penalty. Therefore, it's an amnesty.
Also, because the 'fines' (fees) are revenue, and all revenue bills have to originate in the House, the bill should be thrown out because it violates the Constitution in that regard.
They did that in our AZ paper too. I wrote a letter to the editor about it, and was attacked by left wing psycho "bloggers" and my name ruined on Google. I was called "radical racist right" for pointing out that white people are profiled in the immigration fight. The author of the article in that case was a black gay man who clearly had a vendetta against white people.
