Is the solution to America's energy needs as simple as a trip to the beach?

The idea is a fascinating one as a Florida man searching for a cancer cure may have stumbled onto a virtually limitless source of energy: salt water.

Why pass along nonsense?

The collective level of scientific education of the news staff of a local TV station is probably somewhere below that of a jar of spit. They’re utterly incapable of critically evaluating a story like this.

And, anyway, it’s consistent with WingNutDaily’s fascination with pseudoscience.

Unfortunately, the energy flux density at the nearest point you can reasonably approach such a transmitter is several orders of magnitude too low to be useful.

Did you take high school chemistry?

Hydrogen [’water forming’] burns [’oxidizes’] to form water. They can’t go any further chemically.

2H2 + O2 > 2(H20) + energy ! oxidation

2(H20) + energy > 2H2 + O2 ! electrosis, for instance

The energy was given off forming water, you have to put just as much energy back in to get molecular hydrogen and oxygen. Some energy is invarably lost in the transaction. Hydrogen is more of an energy storage medium than a primary source. (Except when it’s converted to Helium in a star or a nuclear weapon. That’s high school physics.)

Or perhaps there server is being powered by electricity generated from the output of this guy's water-burning machine. :=)

On a different note, Moller Intl. successfully tested its Rotapower rotary engine using a fuel composed of 70% ethanol and 30% water.

I believe the technical term for that fuel is "vodka."

Finally! The ultimate solution to Global Warming!

1st, no more carbon-based fuels. 2nd, we’ll be dropping the sea level in no time! I think I’m going to start buying up the NEW ocean-front property that will open up soon after we start consuming so much salt water.

I was working at a brokerage firm in the mid-80’s when the talk of a successful cold fusion experiment caused a buzz. People were inquiring about investing in palladium. Hopefully, for their sake, they didn’t invest too much.

I got a tape of an Austin City Limits performance by Prine that I love watching. I just have to fast forward through this one almost unbelievably hateful song that basically -- actually literally -- asserts that conservatives are soulless and inhuman. I think it's called "Some people have no soul [heart?]". At least that was the refrain, best I remember.

The question is whether the combustion creates more usable energy than is necessary to drive the process.

This isn't a question at all, as it defies hard laws of thermodynamics.

I’m sure we’ll let the Chinese and Cubans drill for water in the Atlantic, but the environuts won’t let us. We’ll become addicted to foriegn water

No, it'll be Water Transfers (From Canada)
