I got a tape of an Austin City Limits performance by Prine that I love watching. I just have to fast forward through this one almost unbelievably hateful song that basically -- actually literally -- asserts that conservatives are soulless and inhuman. I think it's called "Some people have no soul [heart?]". At least that was the refrain, best I remember.

Ah, here it is. It was this appearance on ACL from 2005, and the song was Some Humans Ain't Human, with specific reference to George W. Bush ("some cowboy from Texas") as belonging in that category.

The hubris and hypocrisy of Prine, in this song, literally dehumanizing, like, half the country, and then calling them, rather than himself, unkind, jealous, stupid, etc, is stunning.

This kind of thing makes me sad rather than angry, which is usually why I try to avoid it. Although being constantly put in the position of having to avoid it tends to make me a little angry.
