Teamsters foaming over ejection at Yuengling (new favorite brew alert!)
Associated Press ^ | May 29, 2007 | Michael Rubinkam

POTTSVILLE, Pa. -- Dick Yuengling Jr., fifth-generation owner of the brewery that bears his name, called his employees together a few weeks before their labor contract was set to expire to talk about the future of the business.

"Read between the lines," he told them at one point, according to government documents on the management-union feud that followed.

Depending upon whom you ask, Mr. Yuengling's speech was either a pep talk to urge employees to work harder or an ultimatum to dump the Teamsters union, which is what they did.

The union has been trying to strike back, urging a boycott of the 178-year-old brewery's product. The company says the effort has fallen flat -- with "absolutely zero feedback" from the marketplace, according to Chief Operating Officer David Casinelli.

Now, the Teamsters say they are going to try to get state lawmakers to intervene in what they say has been an unfair fight.

shed a tear for "33"

My lips will never tough Rock again. However, the old Latrobe Brewery is up and going again. City Brewing bought it, and it just recently started making Sam Adams beers there. Alas, the union still is strong there, but I will pick up an occasional Sam Adams in addition to Yuengling.

The guys in my Army War College Seminar (Seminar 13, Distance Education Class of 1999) introduced me to Yuengling. I’ve bought it ever since! Those guys in my seminar were fine gentlemen.

Yuengling’s not a bad beer. I could take it or leave it. Now, I’ll take a case of it home from my next shopping trip.

Ha, not to hijack but we call a six of 16 oz beers a “rack of pounders” down here.

let me guess how this will end up...

Teamster Thug-in-Chief “Fast Eddie” Rendell sudddenly reschedules a bunch of PennDOT construction work to all routes leading into and out of the brewery. Just coincidence, mind you. Yingling will then approach the head of the Jersey mob, “Crash” Corzine, about setting up shop across the Delaware. Rendell will pre-empt this by using his Eminent Domain powers to seize the brewery and convert the property into a Jimmy Hoffa Theme Park. Rendell’s capo, “Big P___y Murtha”, will then prevail on Corzine to stay on his side of the river and out of the fight, and Yingling sleeps with the fishes.

Too bad the Sopranos is coming to an end. Our governor could provide them with another five years worth of story lines.

Yuengling porter is one of my favorites. Visit the Pottsville brewery. A great tour

The porter.

Black Label. Probably. I do remember Carling Bassett, though...

PBR is another repulsive brew.

And, course, Utica Club products. (especially Billy Beer).

I’m a fan of the Black and Tan. At least in NC the price is reasonable - about what you’d pay for Bud or Miller or one of the others I won’t drink.

"I wonder how much money the union *is* losing due to being kicked out of Yuengling?"

The unions are spending most of their money on campaign contributions to Democratic Party politicians, rather than on organizing. The Dems have bled the unions dry, with little to show for it.

...and it's not as though the Red Chinese are going to cry when they buy Chrysler (or the name, from Cerebus) in order to import Cherry autos as "Ram Trucks" and have the American Chrysler employees go on strike.

The Chinese will just close down those striking American plants. Well, that's what would have happened to Yuengling Beer if the employees hadn't voted out the Teamsters.

Unions only get their way by force and threats. Just like the government.

...and the Koranimals, and their liberal lackeys.

I believe that Yuengling is the official beer of the War College. That’s where I was introduced to it in the 80’s, not sure that you could get it outside of Pennsylvania back then. Been a favorite of mine ever since, now doubly so.

I had my first Yuengling at PNC Park a couple of years ago. Pure bliss! It’s too bad it’s not sold in Washington State as far as I know. It’s nice to be able to purchase goods and services that are not only excellent but politically correct (in the good sense).

Cant get it in my hometown, Boston. I was introduced to it here in NC by a PA local. I admit to enriching Plank Road Brewery lately, but I will make sure to grab a 12 pack tonight. They better brew more beer if they get rid of a union.

They have it in South Carolina. I can’t find it in New England. I like it - I think it would do well in this market.
