Nah...I think their sense of denial is too great. I expect the algores to claim credit for any climate change here on out.

Hopefully but fanatical religious sects tend to just increase the rhetoric (and violence) when challenged.

Most of the cash from credit sales would go to lawyers and brokers on the carbon market, but the biggest gains from Kyoto go to the environment.

Projects to stop the flaring of billions of cubic meters of natural gas, capture methane gas released by landfills, and create waste-water treatment systems, can all be financed, along with many others, simply by selling the carbon credits they produce, said Jan-Willem van de Ven, head of the carbon credit fund at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development.

None of these projects would happen otherwise.

Projects with no economic value spawned to benefit "lawyers and brokers" -- sounds like government as usual.

The “Climate Change” movement isn’t insanity. It’s a carefully calculated effort to undermine market forces. Global warming, global cooling, makes no difference. The bottom line is, capitalism is bad for the weather.

Then again, you may be right in one sense. There is the fact that a lot of leftist actually believe that people are causing the world to heat up. If you hold leftist views and you see that the weather patterns this year aren’t exactly like the weather patterns last year you need some explanation. If you truly believe that there is no God and that mankind is the center of all things then mankind must be causing climate change. The alternative is that THEY have no control over the way the climate changes and this, to their narcissistic minds, is truly frightening.

Don't start drawing hasty conclusions. Do you honestly think any major oil exporting country is going to jump on the Global Warming bandwagon? Of course not. That by itself makes the value of their opposition to Global Warming tenuous at best. Let's not start applauding Russia when their opposition is likely based on nothing more than their wish to sell as much oil and natural gas as possible. You honestly don't believe that Putin's Russia cares only about the truth of science do you?

Note: don't assume that I necessarily support the opposite if I reject some argument. To do so would be to be small minded and to draw hasty conclusions of my intentions and reasoning.

Where can I download a carbon credit. I intend to print a truckload of counter fit credits, and need a copy to work from. This should make me as rich as Algore.

From the article

...Each carbon credit represents a 1-ton cut in carbon dioxide emissions.

Then the next paragraph

Once certified, these credits can be sold for $5 to $15 each on the global carbon market, and the buyer can use them as a permit to emit 1 ton of carbon dioxide elsewhere in the world. The most likely buyers are from European Union countries, where polluters must pay fines if they do not have enough carbon allowances.

They can say that with a straight face.
Where is the cut in carbon emissions??
They are just moving the emissions around, and making money doing it.

The climate fearmongers switched from global cooling to global warming in a heart beat. They can switch back just as quickly. Global cooling will create more fear than global warming, anyway. It has always been a stretch to fear tropical climates in Iceland. Give it one more year of less than peak temperatures, and we will hear global cooling fears, with the same causes as global warming. You only have to tweak the models slightly to predict cooling.

That’s why “they” are slowly changing the word “global warming” to “climate change”. That way, the environmental nutcases can be sure to cover their butts no matter which way the temp. goes.

Don't get excited, though. If Mironov--or anybody else--should come up with undisputable proof, the Left will merely take up Global Cooling as a cause célèbre, and their Ministry of Propaganda (aka the "Mainstream Newsmedia") will make it all seem logical--and that they had meant to say "Global Cooling" instead of "Global Warming" all along; I mean...after all...anybody can have a slip of the tongue, f'cryin' out loud. Never underestimate the strategic--or moral-prestidigitationability of the Left!

Russia's biggest conference on the Kyoto Protocol which drew more than 200 environmental experts and carbon market participants from around the world.

Yep, that's a big conference alright!

“On this point, Mironov stands on the fringes of global scientific opinion. A growing consensus has formed among top scientists and politicians, who have been warning governments to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere.”

1) better to be on the fringe and correct tan to be center of mass and wrong.

2) Consensus my butt. In fact, the pendulum seems to be swinging in the opposite direction as of late.

Global warming or nuclear winter? Which do you like best? Speculative arguments and computer models can be made on either side.

I worry more about whether it will rain if I get my car washed.

IMHO, when this is all said and done, Clinton’s name will be all over this. Right now Gore is Hillary’s biggest threat. The Clinton’s want Universal Health Care as their money laundering operation, not global warming.
