Made even more amazing by the fact that just under 50% of crude is refined into gasoline/diesel base stock.

In other words we are in oil trouble because the government refuses to become energy independent. [don’t blame the oil companies, blame the Presidents, all of them]

Here's my problem with the whole Change Blends = Much Higher prices theory. Pre-Hurricane Katrina while prices at the pump may have risen by a few cents, it never rose as fast and by as much as it does now.

I still believe the Oil companies got a taste of much higher prices during the Katrina fiasco and just don't want to go back to lower prices so they use everything they can think of as an excuse for oil prices rising as much as they do.

They have managed to get people used to $2.50 per gallon prices so that the ordinary consumer uses that as a base instead of the $1.25 per gallon before Katrina.

By this time next year I would be willing to bet prices will hang around $3.00 per gallon so that they can then use that as a base for pricing.

A million kinds of money (each requiring a different line on the tax return) and a hundred types of gasoline. Regulations will be the death of us.

There isn't any valid reason for having oxygenated gasoline. Fuel injection became dominate around 1984 and improved by 1988 (TBI vs TPI) with incremental gains up to present for efficiency of combustion and fuel economy.

If we were all still driving around using carburetors, that would mean differently.

Congress could help prices by doing something about this mess instead of passing meaningless, feel-good legislation against imagined price-gouging.
