How can Washington, after the Farmers Branch election where 2/3 voted in favor of measures to curb illegal immigration, still feign ignorance?
Isolation. With an 11-months-a-year Congress, they spend all their time in D.C. The whole time theyre there, they get their news from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the four TV networks. And the only people they talk to are their staffers, other congress-critters, bureaucrats, and lobbyists.
Back before air conditioning, Congress used to take August (and most of July) off. Everybody went back to their districts, and had to live with (and answer to) their constituents for a month or so. Now they only get home for fund-raising, which by its nature limits their contacts to people who already agree with them.
And theres another factor. Today nearly all Senators and many House members can be described as very wealthy. The high percentage of rich people (some very rich) is a significant change from 50 years ago. When very wealthy people return home, its to the country clubs and gated communities. Even in the red states, the circles Congresspeople move in tend to be internationalist and fuzzy-liberal. And the only average citizens theyre likely to encounter are the illegal aliens who do the lawn mowing.
So yes, I can understand the ignorance. Of course theyre ignorant. They spend their whole life in a bubble, and they just dont f*ckin know it.
Six-year terms have put them out of touch with Americans; you figure it out!
We just need to replace them more often.
“We just need to replace them more often.”
Problem is, now we have two privileged ruling classes, at either end of the capitol.
I'll bet if the camera were to pan downward you'd see a pair of plaid slacks and Clarks Wallabees.
I despise Fred Barnes because of his blasé attitude toward illegals. I usually watch Lou Dobbs. Not that I agree with him 100%. But it’s more palatable than Brits show. If I see Charles Krauthammer I’ll watch. Brit is OK. If I want red meat on illegal immigration and our crazy trade policies it’s only on Lou Dobbs. Glen Beck is also very good. I’m watching him right now
Life is too nice and easy for these inside the Beltway hacks. Political hacks and hack journalists. Fred is a dope. I stopped watching Beltway Boys years ago
MONEY is the only word you need to understand. Congress will ALWAYS follow the MONEY.
Barnes was on Hugh Hewitt last Friday and Hewitt was having none of it from Barnes.
Excellent argument for term limits....in both the Senate and the House...all the BS, rhetoric, and spin to the contrary, notwithstanding. Unfortunately, it will never happen peacefully. Too bad...we lose.
I would have loved to hear FRed get spanked! Hugh used to be weak on illegal immigration. He's gotten much stronger, is doing a boffo job exposing the idiocies in this amnesty. Hugh believes in enforcement and a fence. He is willing to take in these 12 million illegals but only with provable enforcement. Thus Hugh is pro amnesty but the arrogant hacks in DC make it impossible for him to support this bill. These Congress critters have proven time and again to be saboteurs of enforcement. Dittos for our Executive Branch of government
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them.
I thought Juan williams was rich as he listed all of the menial jobs immigrants must do.
Dobbs was good today. So is Beck, whom I am watching now. It is getting increasingly hard for me to watch Fox.
Barnes
Whorealdo
Sharpton
GOP is my God, Hannity

I used to be weak on illegal immigration 6 or 7 years ago.

Hugh also smacked Tony Snow across the nose with a 2 x 4 last week, as well. Cancer therapy and all! We love you Tony, but don’t try to sell us this pig in a dress.
If you listen to today’s audio Hewitt pigeon holes all the flaws in the bill. He’s a brilliant lawyer and he talks real slow so us regular folk can understand. What’s amazing is that it is actually much worse than you and I could have imagined?!?!
I hate this stuff with the dry lawyerly flavor it nearly puts me to sleep, but we owe it to ourselves to know the details that we may educate ourselves and others. Hugh makes it interesting enough because he’s got a fire in the belly.
Let’s pool our money, but a house next to mccain and then rent it out to 30 ILLEGALS.
