WASHINGTON - Dried apples preserved with a cancer-causing chemical. Frozen catfish laden with banned antibiotics. Scallops and sardines coated with putrefying bacteria. Mushrooms laced with illegal pesticides.
These were among the 107 food imports from China the Food and Drug Administration detained at U.S. ports just last month, agency documents reveal, along with more than 1,000 shipments of tainted Chinese dietary supplements, toxic Chinese cosmetics and counterfeit Chinese medicines.
For years, U.S. inspection records show, China has flooded the United States with foods unfit for human consumption. And for years, FDA inspectors have simply returned to Chinese importers the small portion of those products they caught - many of which turned up at U.S. borders again, making a second or third attempt at entry.

How many are Oklahoma? Do you think this is a comprehensive list of -all- the 'poisonous' food out there on grocery store shelves?
If you want to make idiotic assertions that I want to eat chicom poison, then I apologize for responding rationally to you.
If you want to discuss this rationally, then I would merely try to make the point that the ENTIRE food chain is precarious in America, from -all- sources internal and external, precisely because it is assumed that the FedGov keeps complete control over it.
Scare articles like this do us a disservice because it tries to divert attention to the 'dirty scary chicoms' and away from the real culprits: our federal buraeucracy -coupled with- the American peoples' lazy reliance on the Fedgov (think IRS, TSA, CIA) to keep them safe.

Yes, that fresh meat provision jumped out at me.
Luckily, we have good local beef in Panama. It is not the most tender in the world, but it is good and not expensive.
I believe there is exported beef from the U.S. From where ever it comes, the price is enough to turn me away and stop reading the label any further.
There are also local chicken farmers.
Anyone with “7.50-9.00 per hour and 40 kids” would be better off shopping their neighbor’s yard sale. Actually we all would be better off doing more of that.

Just checked CostCo’s canned mushrooms. They carry a brand called Pennsylvania Dutchman. The label has a picture of a map of the United States.
Looking more carefully at the label, it also says: PRODUCT OF CHINA.
I am returning the case of canned mushrooms on my next visit.

I have the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. It would not amke me happy to die from lack of due dilligence on the part of my government, regarding my food supply, that they use routinely in taxing my money.

Don't hold your breath. Cheap imports are the lifeblood of America. Sad, but true.
This country became great by entrepreneurship and taking responsibility for one’s own well-being. There were a couple of people in this thread (like Diana) who suggested ideas for responsibility. Most of these threads and all of the cat food threads suggested that bigger government is the answer whether to provide more inspections or to limit or regulate trade. But the same fools who want to limit trade will happily shop at Walmart and never look at the labels.
