Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio sent out a message about global warming at the Cannes Film Festival.
The heartthrob has made a film, the 11th Hour, warning that human beings face extinction as a result of the environmental crisis.
At a press conference in the South of France following the screening, The Blood Diamond actor, 32, attacked US President George Bush, saying: "It's very simple. He's done very little for the environmental movement."
The Titanic star's latest film, which he narrates, follows another environmental warming documentary by former US Presidential candidate Al Gore, shown at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
DiCaprio defended Gore from criticism over the amount of energy he has been reportedly using to jet around the world and to run his home.
"Don't shoot the messenger", he said. "This person is trying to relay a message to the public and the way that he travels should not be splayed out like that."
DiCaprio said it should be oil companies that came under scrutiny and that the Government should make systematic change.
The US star said he took steps in his own life to reduce global warming, telling the famous film festival: "I do try to live my life in a green manner. I have installed solar panels in my house and the car that I drive is a hybrid one.
"But it's more about the day-to-day things, being conscious about being a consumer, about looking to endorse green technology. People ask, 'what can a hybrid car do?' It's not about that. It's about being a consumer, the choices you make everyday."
There is a point where we will face extinction - when CO2 levels get up to the 5,000 ppm range. CO2 asphyxiation starts to set in at that level.
Fortunately, we will not reach that level for another 3,000 years at current rates of increase. I imagine long before then, we will have run out of coal and oil as well.
But don’t tell Leo, he won’t understand it and he will cry.
I'm literally finished with them all. I've given up on even the most rational ones, like James Woods and Tom Selleck.
IMHO it takes a certain disconnect from reality to want to be an actor in the first place. When one becomes successful at becoming someone else, all contact with reality ceases. Thus all the idiotic, self-serving, and, let's not forget, hypocritical blather from Hollyweird.
It's a real shame that our news media is now more about ratings and entertainment or propaganda. It's dominated with stories about these reality-impaired nincompoops, leaving facts, commentary, and dialog on the issues to the minute-and-fifteen "he said, she said" treatment.
Thank the Lord for the 'net and FR.
Right — and if the islamonutzies have their way, you’ll be Leo Decapitato long before then...
Lincoln gets credit most of the time. Franklin may very well have said it.
Lincoln also gets credit for saying “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” That fellow from Nazareth doesn’t seem to be mentioned anywhere.
“If humans, who caused the global warming problem, go extinct, wouldnt that fix the problem?”
EXACTLY RIGHT! Then God won’t have to put up with our whining any more, the animals will live in peace, and just maybe the buffalo will replenish the plains someday.
He can save humanity by blasting off for mars permanently.
Leonardo DiCaprio a heartthrob? That girlie man?
This is nothing. Human beings bah! A really important species is going to go extinct.

The average temperature in April 2007 was 51.7 F.
This was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 47th coolest April in 113 years.

He’s a Turd!
DOOMAGE!!!!
...Gee, do I ever miss the stars of yesteryear, like Don Knotts, Cary Grant, Lucille Ball, and countless others who had a lot more class.
Absolutely without question. Many of these actors just have GEDs. For some, if they made it that far, they would be lucky. But even in college, for the ones that made it that far, it was mostly theater studies. I have worked with many actors in LA and they are not a well educated bunch--far, far from it--, mostly blow hard libbies shooting their mouths off without facts, every chance they have even the smallest audience. The more famous the harder to get them to shut their trap.
There are probably well over a thousand on this site that have advanced degrees. My husband has a Ph.D and I a Masters degree.
And that is why I am organizing the "Save the Sun" movement.
Your consumer choices can prevent the sun from becoming a Red Giant: Paper or plastic? Human sacrifice keeps the sun alive!
Give until it hurts, then it will hurt no more....
The Sun wants Leonardo.
I would trust Mr. Haney from “Green Acres” long before I would trust Albert from the “Gorebull Warming” magic show and ponzi scheme.
