Walter Reed FReep #108 - A Really Noisy Night!
Washington, DC, May 11, 2007 -- Honks, honks, and more honks! Even a pedestrian walking by said "If I had a car I'd be honking." It's an amazing thing to see (hear) so much support for a patriotic display in such a liberal town! I don't think it was just the excellent weather but a very real appreciation for the men and women living and working inside Walter Reed.
Here are a few images from the celebration (the whole collection can be viewed here.)
The whole list of FReepers & FRiends in attendance this week (If I missed anyone - please let me know!): Albion Wilde, Apple Blossom, Bill from MD*, BillF, bmwcyle, Cindy-True-Supporter, Craig from DC*, Danang68, Fraxinus, George & Ethel*, Maica, MissUSA1776, PleaDeal, Sensei Ern, Taco Mamma, TJ of GoE, Tolerance Sucks Rocks, Tom the Redhunter, Trooprally [Mr.], VAFlagWaver.
Mrs Trooprally was home preparing the going away party for her Marine son, SSG Trooprally. We all wish him Godspeed in his mission and a HUGE "Thanks!" for defending this great nation. Read more about SSG Trooprally at Trooprally's son, Staff Sgt., USMC, FReeps at Olney: Wk 72-Olney,MD 5-12-7:Operation Infinite FReep.
Congratulations also go out to Taco Mamma and Danang68. Their Marine son, Maj. Taco Bell, is up for promotion to Lt.Col!!! OORRAHH!
The usual gang of commies gathered waaaaay down the block...
Before we knew it, the evening was coming to an end.

The bus filled with wounded warriors and family coming back from
the weekly free dinner.
The tear-down crew at work:
We'll be back out at Walter Reed Friday night, May 18th, from 6:30 until at least 9:30 at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street, NW in Washington, D.C.
The wounded warriors inside the hospital are heartened by the sight of ordinary citizens cheering for them and displaying our thanks for the service and sacrifice they've made on our behalf.
A couple hours this Friday night is very little to give compared to what they've contributed!
Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.
Directions to our Walter Reed freep location from the Takoma metro station

Well, HONK HONK HONK!!!
There are many organizations and very generous individuals who take the wounded warriors and their families out for meals and other adventures every day of the week. Of course, the soldiers are allowed out of the base anytime they’re not on duty (yes, they still work if able) and the doctors give the OK.
What are you doing reading DU, anyway? ;)
I like keep up with Duers sometime that only I am sooo bored on the internet ROFL
I had be really bored go on DU really bored
And thanks fo Plea Deal for putting together (A LOT OF WORK) the thread for us all to share.
Is is just me/my computer? Surely would like the pix bigger.
I think it might be me. I have a decent sized HD monitor.(22 inches).. but the setting I must use to keep the proper shape is this small one.. all is sharp & clear but SMALL
The monitor is not the traditional shape - it is a bit wider in perspective.
Thanks again

I have heard from the WR wounded that the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan KNOW about our Walter Reed Support the Troops Rallies. Also heard from patients, doctors and a chaplain that the wounded can see the MOAB from the wards and they ARE encouraged by it.
Many patients have come out to Thank us for being there, and that the MOAB is one of the first things they see when back in the States. It is a really humbling experience when the wounded troops Thank us.
