FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

HINT & TIPS

Welcome to the FReeper Canteen Hints & Tips that can be make your life easier. Or not! Hopefully, you'll find something here that will make your life easier. Or maybe someone you know could use one of these ideas. If you have a hint or tip of your own, be sure to leave it behind before you leave the Canteen.

Ma can always use helpful ideas on how to keep the Canteen clean with all the youngsters running around.

Let's start with some general household hints.

*** Use of soap wrapper: Don't throw away the wrapper after removing a bar of soap. Place it inside your shoe cabinet or shoe box. It's a cheap way of filling the air with a nice smell.

*** If your polished furniture has small scratches: Try rubbing them with a shelled walnut. You'll see the scratches just disappear!

*** If you have problem with slippery shoelaces which refuse to stay tied: Rub them with a candle and make them less slippery so that knots stay put.

*** To keep lint and dust off glass top tables, wash them in a solution of warm water and fabric softener. Add one tablespoon of liquid fabric softener to one quart of warm water. The fabric softener will clean the glass inexpensively and will help keep lint from gathering on the glass. Also great for computer screens and TV's

*** Don't throw away odd socks or socks with holes in them, use them to make a mop. Tie several socks (10-12 works best) to a mop or broom handle and use just like you would a regular mop. White cotton socks work best for this project and by the time the "sock mop" wears out, you'll probably have plenty more socks to make a new one.

***Get rid of pet hair on upholstery effortlessly by wiping the furniture with a slightly dampened sponge.

(All hints found on websites. Management makes no claims to the effectiveness of any hints)

Some of my favs:

Clean from the top down, from the back to the front. Cuts cleaning time in half.

If you have a stubborn stain in your carpet, try non-scented baby wipes! They grab almost every stain out of the carpet. Once it dries, though, go over the area with a damp clothe to pull up any leftover soap.

Don't discard those plastic zippered bags that linens come in. Save them for kids toys that have lots of little pieces. Takes up a lot less space than the storage containers and all their bits stay together.

If your glass cleaner is leaving a residue on your glass, try spraying the cleaner onto a bunched up page out of a newspaper. The ink lifts off the residue and don't leave anything behind!

If you have little ones and need to clean up in a hurry, get a 32 quart storage bin with a lid and wheels. Roll that into the livingroom, chunk the toys in there, snap down the lid, and roll it out. Presto! Toy free in under 2 minutes.

Can't get the flu out of your house? Try this tip: include switch plates, the walls around them, door handles on both sides of all doors, and phone handsets as part of your regular cleaning regimen. Cuts down on the spread of germs exponentially!

Did you just dust, but can't get that dusty stink out of your livingroom? The culprit is probably the back of your television. Turn off the TV, whip out the vaccuum, and get that muck off the vents.

Also, if you have a room that is perpetually dusty, find the dirt source. Tops of cabinets, computer desks, book shelves, and ceiling fan blades!

Spray your drapes and bedding with scented Lysol once a week. It helps the house smell fresh if you didn't get a change linens.

Vents clogged on your hairdryer? Use the bristle brush on your vacuum. Cleans it up in a snap and extended the life of your hairdryer.

Save old toothbrushes - they are great for cleaning out corners.

Peepee smell in the bathroom? Clorox the entire commode (not just the bowl, but outside and undersides), and then spray and wipe down all the surfaces near it (walls, cabinets, etc.). Little ones sometimes have bad aim!

White plastic or metal blinds looking dingy? Take them down and let them soak in a tub of hot water with bleach. After an hour, wipe them down with a sponge, hose them off, and then them dry. They'll look like brand new!

Blood on the carpet? Use cold water, spill directly onto the stain. Cold water lifts up the blood.

Okay...enough for now.

Night all!

New non-update. He just called...he’s in the hospital, hooked up to an IV, they’ve run an EKG on him...and well, that’s all he knew and he pretty much just wanted to hang up.

Waiting stinks.....BUT! My God’s pretty big, isn’t He? :)

I can see it now...’course, I’m drifting in and out of a half-sleep state, and see you sliding through turns like in those old Elvis movies...

I think I’m going to call it a night now.

Sweet dreams to all.

Blood on the carpet? Use cold water, spill directly onto the stain. Cold water lifts up the blood.

And, after blotting the spot up, rub in a generous amount of 3% hydrogen peroxide. This will quickly bleach blood stains colorless without affecting most dyes. (But it won't hide their presence from forensics, if you happened to have murdered Uncle Jim in the living room.)
