PERMIT IS APPROVED: COAST GUARD ACADEMY MAY 23, 2007
Gathering Of Eagles ^ | 05/10/2007 | RaceBannon

Posted on 05/10/2007 5:07:34 AM PDT by RaceBannon

The Gathering of Eagles, a patriotic organization of Veteran's and supporters will be holding a rally to welcome the families of the graduating Coast Guard academy cadets on May 23, 2007.

In addition to our support of these families and graduating cadets, we will be welcoming the President of the United States as he addresses the graduating class.

Normally this would be a private event that we would welcome with silent respect. However, this event is already marred by the planned attendence of a radical left wing group known as A.N.S.W.E.R. We believe that this left wing group's presence is an insult to the honor due these graduates and is a personal insult to our President.

The Gathering of Eagles has planned to present ourselves at 3 locations: 1. Our first location would be the Academy exit off rte 32 south, at the intersection of Williams Street. We will be facing the families and all visitors to the area as they exit this area and proceed to the Academy entrance.

2. Our second location is on Mohegan Ave, directly across from the Academy entrance. A.N.S.W.E.R. has already secured a permit to be on the same side of the street as the entrance to the Academy. Our position would make us visible to the Families and visitors to the Academy as we set up directly across the street from the entrance. A.N.S.W.E.R. not only has a permit for the area between Williams Street and the entrance, but also on the north side of the entrance. Our location will have a presence directly across from the entrance and both sides of the gate.

3. Our third location is the northern gate entrance to the Academy at the corner of Rte 32 and Deshon Ave. Our permit requested the east and west side of Rte 32 at this corner. Deshon Ave only exits to the east side, but any vehicles exiting rte 32 south onto Deshon Ave will see us. The area on rte 32, on the west side, will be our most visible location for the families to see us as they enter. Answer does not have a permit for this location.

Parking will not be the best, but we have several locations that we know we can use:

UPDATE: PARKING IS ALLOWED ON WILLIAMS STREET, WEST OF THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY. WHEN EXITING THE RTE 32 SOUTH RAMP, WHEN YOU COME TO THE WILLIAMS STREET AND BRIGGS STREET INTERSECTION, TURN LEFT, PARKING WILL ALSO BE ALLOWED AT CONNECTICUT COLLEGE, WHICH IS 1/2 MILE WEST ON WILLIAMS FROM THIS SAME EXIT.

a. There is a park off of Willliams Street. From the corner of Williams and Mohegan, proceed south on Williams and take the first left onto Crystal. Bear left on Riverside Street. Proceed until you get to Riverside Park. We can fit about 30 cars there.

b. Additional parking can be found by proceeding further down Williams Street underneath the overpass. Also, further down the street is an apartment complex and a park. Parking may be available at the park.

c. On Williams Street west of the exit, there are not any parking signs at all on the west bound lane, but the east bound lane is completely labeled NO-PARKING.

d. Across from the Deshon street exit area, there is an entrance to a local college. Parkng has not been approved there, but some might be available. Deshon Street itslef might have parking on the side streets.

Below are maps of the Coast Guard Academy and locations for our rally and parking locations.

In the first map, item 1 is the off ramp of Rte 32 where we have applied for a permit. From this location, we will be able to greet all cars entering in to the Coast Guard academy from the north, for they must turn at this exit to enter the academy. UPDATE: PARKING IS ALLOWED ON WILLIAMS STREET, WEST OF THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY, TO THE WEST OF AREA MARKED 1 AND 6. Item 2 on the map is the Riverside Street parking area. There will be limited parking there. At the bottom of the map is an open area under the bridges over the Thames, but answer will be using those areas, also. Be careful if you park there, we dont know who is coming from ANSWER and whether the anarchists will be in attendance or just the old hippies. Item 3 is the location across the street from the Academy where we applied. There is a 10 ft wide grass strip about 75 yards long directly across from the academy entrance. ANSWER has the permit for the entrance side of the street, we applied for the opposite side. The Police were favorable to this, but it is unlikely because it is not a normal pedestrian area. Keep your fingers crossed.

In Map 2, Item 6 is the same area as 1, it is the off ramp area, across the street from where the cars will exit Rte 32 South. Several collegs are on the left and parkng MIGHT BE possible there. There is also a museum and another place similar on the left turn here where parking might be available. The Museum, however, is a leftist owned and run area. If you turn left at this corner, there aren't any NO PARKING signs on the right hand side of this street, but the left hand side, heading towards the academy, is filled with no parking signs.

Item 4 is the Deshon Street area where we also applied for a permit. We can have people on BOTH sides of the street on Rte 32, but NOT on the south side of Deshon street. Deshon street is the north side entrance to the academy, and is a highly desired location for us! PARKING MIGHT BE AVAILABLE ON RTE 32 SOUTH ON THE WEST AND EAST SIDE NEAR DESHON AVENUE. CHECK FOR SIGNS PROHIBITING PARKING. DUE TO THE PRESIDENT COMING, SECURITY REGULATIONS MIGHT CHANGE.

Map 3 shows the directions from Rte 95 from the south. Take 95 to ret 395 north to exit 79.
From exit 79, take a left onto rte 163 and head east 1 mile.
Turn right onto rte 32 and head south for 4 miles. The academy will be on the left, and you need to turn right at the academy exit. It is not marked well, but once you see the academy on the LEFT, get in the right lane. You will do almost a u-turn and you will end up at the exit marked 6 and 1. BY TAKING THIS EXIT, YOU COME UP THE RAMP TO BRIGGS STREET. TURN RIGHT AGAIN AND IT BRINGS YOU TO THE WILLIAMS AND BRIGGS STREET INTERSECTION, WHERE LOCATION ONE IS. PARKING WILL BE TO THE LEFT ON WILIAMS STREET ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, AND ALSO AS INDICATED ON THE LEFT.

Map 4 shows ADDITIONAL parking locations that we have confirmed. From the rte 32 south exit, turn right onto BRIGGS STREET, THEN RIGHT ONTO Williams Street. Drive over the bridge and ignore the ANSWER people who will be on your left at the next traffic light. Proceed 100 yards and take your first left onto CRYSTAL Ave. Bear left onto RIVERSIDE STREET. There is a park on that street where we can fit about 40 cars. If you are later than 0900 hours, it might be best to not park at this location, it would most likely be filled. Continue down Williams Street. You will see the over head bridges, and bear left under these bridges. There are areas where people can park, but it isnot a normal parkng area.

If you turn down COLE street, and head east toward the river, there is an apartment complex and park near the end of that street. There will be some parking there, but not much. Parkig in this area will be only done curbside at best. Parking on the grounds of the academy will not be allowed.

THIS LAST MAP SHOWS THE LEAST DESIREABLE PARKING AREA. HOWEVER, IT MAY BE CLOSER THAN THE COLLEGE.

I BELIEVE THAT PARKING WILL BE BEST LOCATED ON WILLIAMS STREET AS YOU EXIT THE HIGHWAY. TURN LEFT ONTO WILLIAMS AND PARK ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE STREET HEADING WEST.

At first I could not fathom any reason why the moonbats would want to demonstrate at the NCGA. Then I recalled that the CG is involved in drug interdiction. I guess the CG activities drives the price up for the moonbats to get into their ‘groove’.

That may be a concern, but the real reason is the President will be here.

And they hate the President more than they hate drug laws.

I will be going to this rally. I don’t need the directions as I am originally from RI and all the girls there knew that the best looking guys in the world were at the CGA...every Friday night was “Support the Troops”!

If you’re coming in from out of town, be sure to stay at the Radisson in New London, it is very clean, comfortable and affordable....

This really is the answer—New London is a great alternative for me to GOE in Washington DC! Thanks so much for this thread!

Taxman Bravo Zulu! Race, for setting the GOE event up. Wish I could join you, but will not be able to. I’ll be in Washington for the Memorial Day Weekend festivities, however. Hope to see you there.
