Clinton’s childhood story is an agrarian tall tale
The Daily Herald (Chicago) ^ | May 7, 2007 | Chuck Goudie

(snip)

“When I was growing up, the neighborhoods I lived in were surrounded by farm fields, and every harvest season we had a lot of the migrants who come up from Mexico, through Texas, following the harvest, all the way up through Illinois and Michigan,” Mrs. Rodham Clinton has told the spellbound.

Of course millions of people across the country have no idea where Park Ridge is located. They don’t realize it is, was and forever will be an appendage of O’Hare International Airport, attached to Chicago like your nose is to your face.

Mrs. Rodham Clinton has been telling the Big Woods of Park Ridge story since 1996 when she told an audience: “Those of you who did not grow up around Chicago in the 1950s and can only imagine flying into O’Hare where everything looks developed, might find it hard to believe how many farm workers we would have.”

Maybe she mistakenly figured that the American Farm Bureau, headquartered in Park Ridge for decades, was actually a day labor purveyor of hired hands. Or that the State Farm insurance agency office in town was really a government welfare office for migrant workers.

Regardless, if tonight’s Chicago speech holds true to form, Mrs. Rodham Clinton will describe how she used to help migrant farm families in Park Ridge. “The children would go to school with us,” she has said many times, “and every Saturday morning my church group, we’d go out and baby-sit the younger children, so that the older children could join their families in the fields.”

She is correct that in Cook County in the ’30s and ’40s “farmers purchased most of the available land in the county and began raising crops and livestock.” There is just one problem. It was the 1830s and 40s...

From a December 20, 1999 National Review article entitled:
“Her Husband’s Wife : The First Lady and her truth problem”

Here’s another example: In a recent interview with First Lady historian Carl Sferrazza Anthony, Mrs. Clinton told a story of getting a job in an Alaska cannery the summer before she began at Yale Law School. But, alas, she was fired-she said-after questioning a manager about discolored fish. “They were really dark and spoiled,” she told Anthony. “But I guess nobody wanted to know that.” Anthony repeated the anecdote uncritically. But how would you check such a claim if you wanted to?

Mrs. Clinton related an even more dubious vignette in December 1997, while addressing a group of Boston high-school kids at a seminar against racism called “Team Harmony.” After one African-American senior told of being cut off by a white student who said, “Listen you little nigger, this is not Dorchester,” and a Jewish girl told of boys telling vile jokes about the Holocaust in her presence, Hillary said she had a story.

She said that during a break in the action of one of her junior-high- school soccer games, she turned to the goalie for the other team and remarked, “Boy, it’s really cold.” The other girl simply replied, “I wish people like you would freeze.” Shocked, young Hillary Rodham asked why she would say such a thing when the other girl didn’t even know her. “I don’t have to know you to know I hate you,” snapped the goalie.

Everybody at the event nodded sagely, but what was this-an example of reverse racism? That would have been a subtle, if un-Clintonian point. But no. On the plane ride home, Mrs. Clinton admitted to reporters that the goalie herself was white. Say what? The way the First Lady told it, the hateful girl was of Eastern European descent and looked upon Hillary as “some sort of uppity, wealthy, white-bread girl.” The media reported this as though it made sense.

These people did not grow up in a vacuum. Why do not enterprising reporters, (there must be some, somewhere!) find acquaintances, former church members, contemporaries and check out these tales?

There has to be a rendition of Coal Miner's Daughter adapted to Hillary. It just cries out for it.

I grew up in SW Michigan in the 1960's. We were just a few hours from Chicago - it and Detroit were the two "big cities". It was a big deal for us to take a bus trip from school to a museum in Chicago.

There were indeed migrant workers who came to SW Michigan to work the orchards and pick blueberries. They may well have come to Illinois as well. However, I don't ever remember anyone mentioning the kids going to school. If they did, it was directly in the farming communities, not in middle-class neighborhoods. The distances were too great, and this was not a time when kids were being bussed for diversity's sake. That came in the '70's. A middle-class Chicago suburb would have been even more remote from the fields than our mid-sized town in SW Michigan. Migrant workers were, by and large, invisible to us. It was a different time.

Another consideration is that migrant workers, by definition, migrate. In those days, they didn't work in large numbers as construction workers, landscapers, or nannies. They moved with the seasonal agricultural cycle. Guess what Hillary? The peak time for seasonal agricultural workers in Illinois is in the summer. School is closed in the summer. For that matter, most Sunday schools let out in the summer too . . .

We belonged to a church which had pretty liberal leanings even back then. I never, ever heard of a Sunday school group babysitting migrant children. If this were such a good idea, and being done routinely in Illinois, surely the great idea would have spread to other congregations and been reported upon in newspapers. Sorry Hillary, this never passed the smell test with an old midwestern gal.

SHRILLERY: Not only did I walk 10 miles in the snow to school each day, but I worked the farm like an old farmhand to give me solidarity with migrant laborers and all downtrodden “persons of color” ..... rising at 5 am daily to milk the cows and feed the livestock..... oh, and in my spare time I pitched hay bales to build my strength for my future climb of Mt. Everest to honor my namesake, Sir Edmund Shrillery!!!

Hillary's crap is not much worse than Edward's "Ah wuz borned a poor black boy in the mill towns where mah pappy was a poor mill worker jus trying to hold his head up against tha Man"

Of course that was all before he grew up to be a rich white poofy shyster lawyer come silky pony.

What a difference a $400 haircut makes!

The two most heinous Hillary lies in my book are the "Chelsea almost died on 9/11" (turns my stomach to remember it) and the shock, shock I tell you that Bubba really was cheating.

Come election time, many women who are not paying attention now will be more inclined to listen to the truth about this woman. This is pure evil woman material best hashed out over a few glasses of wine at the kitchen table. The women’s moral compass is a tricky thing, but telling a huge disgusting lie about your kid to make everyone feel sorry for you is beyond contempt. So is lying to other women about your bum husband...Mia T. is hereby invited to my kitchen in 2008!

He says in the article O’Hare was previously called Orchard Field. It was renamned O’Hare shortly after the end of WWII in honor of Chicago native Butch O’Hare, Medal of Honor winner and the Navy’s first ace.

“I’m stuned”

I assume you mean that you are stunned (maybe stoned?). In any case, I live in Hillary’s former area of Illinois, and I am stuned that a liberal reporter like Chuck Goudie would report such a thing. Methinks he’s got some ‘splaining to do.

BTW, the absurdity of her statements should really scare people. The woman is not only a socialist/fascist, she is not fully in touch with reality.

What amazes is that the lie is so obvious, so easy to see.

What perverse mential illness impels an otherwise intelligent person to publicly betray herself as a liar?

If Hillary’s gets redfaced from this embarrassing column, it will sadly and more likely be from anger than from shame. Anyone with the capacity for shame would have retreated from public life long ago after being exposed, as such a liar, so many times.
