CBNNews.com - Virginia Beach, Va - Before the celebrating came the turning of tassels and accepting this charge:
"I want you to strive for greatness through service," said CBN founder Pat Robertson.
The largest class in Regent's history sang a hymn bowed their heads in prayer.
"Father," prayed Pastor Jack Hayford. "We come with hearts of gratitude for each of these graduates."
{snip}
Some say they were initially skeptical about having a Mormon address a Christian audience.
"There were some people who were alarmed," said Regent graduate Cassy McLauchlin. "I was surprised because I just didn't think he was the speaker we would have here, but they let us know he wasn't coming to speak on any theological issues but he was coming to address us at graduation."

Sorry...nothing in that long, so-called "definition" you posted proves this.
It is just made-up stuff from someone's imagination with a few scattered Bible references thrown in to make it seem authoritative but which are actually out of context.
>What do we do in Heaven, strum the harp for all of eternity?<
As a Christian, I think we get to revel in the glory of God’s unmeasurable love, and joyfully give Him praise forever and ever. The greatest climax, if you will.
Yes, he explored many avenues, including the "divine spark" theory of Manicheaism.
When I say he sure changed his tune on that I mean he went from a philosophy which claims man has a divine spark to a theology proclaiming that man is hopelessly lost in original sin, (and thereby setting a rock solid foundation for the fledgling Church). A night and day transformation in his life...which of course came by God's grace.
Thanks for the thoughtful response.
I guess i have a relatively warped viewed of it because I’m more logical than average. The way it seems to me, once one accepts particular truths or beliefs as certain, if they are sincere, then to me it seems very easy to proceed. Only when they proceed in bad faith, or in partial understanding, do they really have struggles and difficulties. Of course, i add the disclaimer that needs to be added to everything (one i find very paradoxical) - that the only good we do is through God, or due to Him.
RECONRICK i have to question you about your hyperbole. You seem to be charging that a moderate Republican/conservative is a 'liberal', or that a conservative who takes the liberal position on 1-2 issues is a 'liberal'. By that standard, liberals are conservatives anytime they agree with conservatives on an issue.
While Romney has changed his positions on Abortion and possibly gays (that's in dispute), even guns, a look at his campaign against Ted Kennedy in 1994 shows a solidly Republican/conservative stance on a high % of a broad range of issues.
On this FR thread, you can download both sides of one of Romney's campaign flyers from 1994.
On crime (& guns), welfare, foreign policy, health care, congressional reform, economy & taxes, deficit spending, Romney is solidly conservative, and in no way advocates the liberal position on any of those issues. His one 'liberal' position is to maintain the status quo by retaining a woman's right to choose abortion (a conservative attitude to a liberal precendent).
make sure to actually download the full flyer - the jpg shown on the thread is just a portion of the flyer
If the devine essence of Christ is spirit, why didn’t he just appear in the spirit after the resurection? When he taught about the resurection he did so in terms of the body reuniting w/ the spirit which is apparently exactly what happened. That’s why Christ appeared in the flesh to the apostles after the resurection.
You are correct, the bible is clear on many things, however, your interpretation may not always be. I am interested, how did Joseph Smith twist & contradict these plain points? Was it b/c it didn’t conform to Christian dogma? As I said earlier, Christ’s teachings didn’t conform to the Jewish dogma of the day either. Was he just twisting & contradicting? Can you see the parallels here?
James 1:5 is a powerful scripture. It’s plain but very real. Not really a lot to twist there. Hey, I’m not trying to bust your chops man. Just food for thought to a man who obviously has conviction in the Lord.
Obviously...that's what I mean when I say his transformation came by "God's grace".
Yes, I've read "Confessions".
Thank you for your thoughtful and kind response. You might find it interesting to know that my dear mother attended the 1st Baptist Church all of her life. My siblings are Episcopalian, Baptist, Mormon and two of no religion at all. When our mother passed away we had a multi-denominational funeral service for her at the local Baptist church. The Baptist Minister spoke as well as the local Mormon Bishop. A small choir of Mormon ladies sang my mothers two favorite traditional Baptist hymns. We celebrated the life of a wonderful woman and our shared hope of redemption through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
I think this is how all people who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ should treat each other. The things we have in common are so much more than those we disagree on. Rather than pick at each other over specific doctrines we should work together to strengthen each other and promote our common goals and values. This is how we overcome the forces aligned against us on the left They know they can defeat us if we are divided and bickering among ourselves. We cant let that happen.
It's funny how on an open forum you do not get to set the rules about what other people post.
Should we limit Jews from quoting the Torah? How about Catholics from quoting the 9 books in their Bible that protestants just consider apocryphal? How are you supposed to sensibly discuss Mormonism without discussing Mormon scripture? Should we likewise discuss Politics in this country whilst banning reference to the Consitution?
You didn't answer Eusebius' quote. He contends that the pre-mosiac prohpets knew Jesus personally. (Theophany). It has pertinance to your assertion about what it was that Christ specifically came to fulfill.
Main Entry: the·oph·a·ny - Etymology: Medieval Latin theophania, from Late Greek theophaneia, from Greek the- + -phaneia (as in epiphaneia appearance) -- more at EPIPHANY: a visible manifestation of a deity
It is a view shared by Paul who said Moses knew Christ.
1 Cor. 10: 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
And a BoM quote from Pre New Testament times, Just to get your righteous indignation flowing ;-)
2 Nephi 25:26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.
>>>Lord bless you my friend. In polictics... we agree and lets just keep it that way.
I do apreciate this part of your post and thank you.
The actual name is the "Urim and Thummim". It is referenced many times in the Bible. Just google the text of the Bible and you can learn quite a bit about them.
The Torah is part of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy)... so yes quote from them. The Catholic bible has the book of Maccabees which Martin Luther removed with the KJV.
I don't accept them as biblical either... why would I accept the book of Mormon? Why would I accept a quote from someone I consider a false prophet.
it is my choice as it is yours to believe the book of Mormon.
Please let's end this here and say we agree polictically and leave it at that. Lord Bless, Gary
