Former CIA Chief Denies Accusations He Misled Powell Before Iraq Invasion (Bush Didn't Lie)
ABC News ^ | May 1, 2007

Powell's Feb. 6, 2003, U.N. speech, which led to the Iraq invasion, was based on what turned out to be false information from a fraudulent source regarding the existence of WMDs in Saddam Hussein's arsenal. Tenet refutes accusations that he knew the data was false.

"That's just repugnant to me, I would never let the secretary of state … someone who I was very close to, who represented the United States of America, in front of the eyes of the world, go out there and make a false statement. Never," Tenet said.

But in an interview with ABC News earlier this year, Powell's former Chief of Staff Col. Lawrence Wilkerson stated that the former secretary of state was intentionally misled about WMDS in Iraq.

Tenet said it's not true: "It's really serious for someone to say the director and the deputy director, essentially, cooked the books to go make the case for war and didn't tell the secretary of state. There's no way on this God's green Earth that that would ever happen, none."

These quotes from Tenet basically blow the liberal/democrat talking points of "Bush lied about WMD". If Bush lied, then Tenet also lied; and Tenet is saying he didn't lie.

"Tenet refutes accusations that he knew the data was false."

"It's really serious for someone to say the director and the deputy director, essentially, cooked the books to go make the case for war and didn't tell the secretary of state. There's no way on this God's green Earth that that would ever happen, none."

Tenet is such a weasel......
What a scum bag . If I were the Prez I would revoke his
Medal of Freedom . He deserves instead the brand of treason.
One of the President’s worst mistakes was not canning this joker the day he got into office . Clinton’s mole....

Tenet’s an obfuscating, self-aggrandizing goofball. That he made it to CIA chief says a lot about Washington.

Gee, who did work in the area of WMD proliferation? The part of the CIA called WINPAC. That would be .... Valerie Plame & her gang of traitors.

Tenet is now in the position of not knowing what he didn’t know. Was he telling the truth before or now? Who could possibly figure it out? We’ll just have to assume that, as a Clintoon appointment, he’s always lying.

And if not the day Bush got into office, how about the day 3,000 Americans were murdered?

yep
I have always felt that Mr. President shows too much loyalty to the wrong people , and requires accountability from too few. Heads should have rolled left and right ( not literally)
on so many occasions . Tenet most of all.

Tenet misleading Powell is like the blind misleading the blind through a minefield. Either way, anyone following either one is going to get blown up.

Tenet dropped the ball twice. Once on September 11th, and the 2nd was the WMDs. However, lets put that all aside for just a moment.

My question is how long was it when we presented the “slam dunk” case to the United Nations before we invaded Iraq? I know it was at-least 90 days? Nevertheless, why is it not probable (notice I did not use possible) that Iraq moved the WMDs after we showed the world we knew exactly where they were located? Now keep in mind this is the same regime that was playing cat and mouse game with the UN for years.

I think the only mistake we made was showing Iraq we knew where the WMDs were located.

This Administration should have never listened to Powell and the State Department, who wanted to convince Germany, France and the UN. Totally unneccesairy circus.
We should have ignored irrelevant organizations like the UN, and just went on with our crusade to topple Saddam.

Agree, and we should have never showed Iraq we knew where the WMDs were wayyyyyyy before we attacked.

I think you have a winner there. Frame the question this way: "Do we know with 100% certainty there were NO Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq PRIOR to the invasion?"
Yes?
No?
The answer is No.
"Is it possible that WMD could have been moved out of country prior to our invasion?" I don't believe for a minute that the intelligence agencies got it wrong on the WMD. There was too much time for them to move the WMD. There is also the reminder that Saddam used WMD on his own people so he already had proven capability to use them.

I fault Tenet a lot less for missing out on the 9-11 attacks, than for many other things prior to and after it. But mostly I fault him for his lies and betrayals of the last few weeks.

It goes beyond prevaricating just trying to sell books to lefties... It is like he was paid off by Soros to try to make the whole USA look bad.

Except when he is telling the truth, because it is misleading or harmful to his enemies or can be used to build a false sense of trust.

And on Iran during the Iran-Iraq War of the 80s.

You are absolutely right on this. How is any President supposed to get advice and speak openly with his his closest aids, knowing that with a year or two, some of those aids will be relating the conversation to the press in a way that is intended to produce sensational headlines, and make the President and his other aids look bad, while the President and his other aids are still trying to deal with the problem? It would bad enough if the the subject were something mundate like a budget or farm bill. It is unforgivable when the topic is a life or death issue of national security and the person being feted by Larry King and Oprah is the Director of Central Intelligence. Do these people have any sense of duty, honor or decency left? This kind of betrayal for fun and profit needs to stop.

Since the quote is from Tenat, I presume we can apply the same calculus to the phrase 'there is no way' as the phrase 'slam dunk'. We can't trust a damn thing this man says.

Tenet was a Bureaucrat first and always. This is why he remained at the head of the CIA under Clinton. I do recall Tenet complaining that Clinton hardly ever meet with him. Naturally people would ask why did you not resign your post?

Tenet, to me, was in over his head, and was a poor leader. He is a follower and never has been a leader. Tenet did not seem to have any problem with what was going on until he got the blame.

The hardest think for a Bureaucrat to do is to say I am in this position because of the decisions I have made. Ditto the rest of us too.

Bush made the mistake of not phasing Tenet out. Nevertheless, I blame most of September 11th on Clinton. If I had to put it in a percentage, then I would say probably 80%. To me that is Clinton’s legacy. Never mind the Impeachment part.

Its too bad we do not have a Ronald Regan today to exercise the kind of leadership our country desperately needs. Most of the Democrats are Traitors as far as I am concerned, and the Republicans have no balls. Besides the War on terror, and taxes they are not that much different when it comes to Government spending.

We the people need a Conservative party to take back our great Nation before it falls into the abyss with the current two party system.
