Poll finds most Muslims agree with Al Qaeda's goals

WASHINGTON -- Most Muslims want US military forces out of the Middle East and Islamic countries and many agree with Al Qaeda's goals, if not its tactics, suggested a public opinion poll conducted in Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

"Most respondents have mixed feelings about Al Qaeda," said a statement of the study's findings, conducted by the Washington-based nonprofit group WorldPublicOpinion.org and the University of Maryland.

"Large majorities agree with many of its goals, but believe that terrorist attacks on civilians are contrary to Islam."

An average of 74 percent of all those polled agreed with the goal of "push[ing] the US to remove its bases and military forces from all Islamic countries," said the poll.

A full 91 percent of Egyptians and 69 percent of Moroccans said they approved of attacks against US soldiers in Iraq, while 61 percent of Indonesians disapproved. Pakistanis appeared divided on the matter, with 31 percent for such attacks and 33 percent against.

The survey found similar responses with regard to US forces in Afghanistan and the Gulf.

At least 70 percent or more in all four countries supported the goals of "stand[ing] up to Americans and affirm[ing] the dignity of the Islamic people," and "pressur[ing] the United States not to favor Israel," it said.

Those polled were asked whether they thought certain ideas were the goals of Al Qaeda or groups inspired by the Osama Bin Laden-led militant network, and then asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed, somewhat or strongly, with those goals.

Most agreed that Al Qaeda goals included requiring a strict application of Sharia (Muslim) law in every Islamic country, pushing US military forces out of all Islamic countries, and keeping Western values out of Islamic countries - and most were supportive of those aims.

I've always wondered why, after 1400 years of Islamic history, there are no reported "Islamopacifists"--- only "Islamofascists"?

"A full 91% of Egyptians and 69% of Moroccans approved of attacks against US soldiers in Iraq, while 61%..."

I wonder what an honest accounting here in the USA would show.

“Poll finds most Muslims agree with Al Qaeda’s goals”

Well boy am I surprised. Actually, I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you.

I mean they’re such quiet people, so warm and friendly, kind and compassionate. Not hysterical or violent at all. And always so rational and practical. Plus, they’re usually a ball of laughs too. So humorous and fun loving.

Snappy dressers too, especially the women, I think. Nothing sexier than a babe in a tent. And I love those hairy legs and underarms too. Yes mama!

Who was ever so gullible to think otherwise?

And expanding democracy in that region is going to do what exactly? They are going to vote on the best way to behead infidels? I'm really hoping it is the bleeding hearts who are being scammed here. And don't sell me the line that "their views are improving".

The culture itself is toxic. Double-layer asbestos suit on. What is needed is to be completely energy independent of the middle-east, and preferably the rest of the world. Because of their media controls (not that mainstream American media would help anyway), these global backwaters will never change, short of outright hard colonialism that the developed world has no stomach for. "We do not need you anymore" would be a very powerful trump card.

And what of a world caliphate? Do the “respondents” still consider half of Europe as Islamic territory too?

Well we’ll see if the moderates think otherwise when Al Quada decides that they are too moderate and should be waging war on other Muslims. Nothing like agreeing from a distance in a secure land where your rights are protected.

It couldn’t have any thing to do with our media and the Democrats telling them that AQ is winning, could it?

I bet a full 70% of Americans think muslims practice a religion of peace. We’re doomed.

You know, I’ve never read him, and I refuse to. Why? Because going by a 3 name moniker is a arrogant and self-important as a 1 name moniker like “Cher.” How many Victor Hansons are there out there to confuse him with?

If this is the case, and I don’t doubt that it is — why are we so damned reticent to lay a few dozen major cities in ruin to give a partial demonstration of what WAR is really like?

These bastards are convinced their holy war will bring no harm to their HOMES, FAMILIES, INFRASTRUCTURE, HOLY SITES, etc, etc....

We really need to correct that erroneous perception...

You ask “Who was so gullible as to believe otherwise”? As I recall, they’re called “neoconservatives”.

The Verses of the Sword in the koran tell these people they must kill non muslims in order for them to get to heaven. This business about islam being a religion of peace shows how smart their leaders are. Over the centuries they came to understand that they had to hide what they are to survive. In the 18 th and 19 th centuries before p.c. and cable tv, if the islamists would have tried going to London or Paris with bombs, England and the old France would have gone to the middle east and destroyed every one of them.
There would be no muslims today if they were’nt smart enough to lay low until now. They can see the west is killing itself and they can wait.
