Senate votes to require Iraq withdrawals
AP ^ | April 26, 2007 | ANNE FLAHERTY

WASHINGTON - A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.

The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president's threatened veto. Neverthe less, the legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.

The defeaticrats have already cost us lives. You think the terrorists and Iran and Syria would have been as emboldened if the ‘rats hadn’t been cheering for them?

Reid cited the violence in Iraq THIS PAST WEEK as a reason to leave. The message from Reid — leader of the Senate — to the terrorists and Al-Qaida is clear: Kill more innocent Iraqis and Americans and the ‘rat Congress will reward you with control of Iraq and another base / source of cash (Iraqi Oil) for more terrorist attacks against the USA.

Reid may end up as the most despicable politician ever sent to Washington.

Senator Lieberman is the only example I can think of a Democrat that I would have voted for over a Republican (had I lived in CN). I was glad Lieberman beat Weicker.

***

I wish Mr. Lieberman was as conservative on domestic issues as he is on foreign policy and the war. But I am proud of him for continuing to be steadfast in his support of the President on this issue. On this matter, he once again voted his conscience, rather than toe the Dem party line.

McCain and Lindsey Graham did not vote. I think they did not rush back to vote because they knew their vote would not change the outcome. I still think this is too important a vote to not be on record.

Recall that Ed Koch said he did not agree with the President on a single domestic issue, but he appeared at our convention to urge the country to vote for GWB anyway.

If JFK or FDR were around they would kick the current crop of ‘rat surrender monkeys right in the ass. These are not you father’s Democrats — they’re just a bunch of miserable surrender monkeys who have disgraced the United States Senate.

The most unfortunate thing out of all of this, is that Bush had a friendly Congress for severals - years in which he could have increased the size of the military, particularly the Army. He blew that opportunity and now has a Congress that would not only allow the military to expand, but is trying to clamp down on the one we have.

Exactly right.

Treason. The democrats will have the blood of even more dead Americans on their hands thanks to this cowardly act.

May God have mercy on their souls.

“However, I won’t need to add Sen. Lieberman. Smart man and a true patriot — he voted no.”

Thank you for posting this! Living in CT I knew Dodd would vote for this atrocity and I was just hoping Lieberman didn’t cave on this. After his run with Algore where he seemed to do a 180 on so many of the things we trusted him to believe, I no longer assume I know what he will do.

Thanks again! Why is this not trumpeted as TREASON!?! Oh yeah, THEY own the media!
