hemNutra, the Las Vegas importer of the contaminated wheat gluten that led to the original 100-plus packaged pet food recallÑalso imports pet sickening rice protein concentrate from China, "though from another source". "The company has been testing those shipments," according to spokesman Steve Stern. (Andrew Bridges, AP, April 18, 2007).
In other words, ChemNutra, whose Chinese headquarters are within 50 miles of wheat gluten-producing Xuhou Anying Biologic Technology Development Co. Ltd., is up to its bag brim in the rice gluten poison pet food scandal.
Binzhou Futian Biology Technology Co. Ltd. is suspected as the company making the rice protein.
In the poisonous path leading to dead or sickened animals, first came North America, then Puerto Rico. Now 30 pets are dead from contaminated pet food in South Africa.

Hard to tell if it could spread. Too many unknown variables.

We know now there is more than just the melamine and the rat poison. This thing is growing and the only reason the public isn’t aware is probably advertising pressure on the networks to downplay it, the FDA is certainly keeping low profile.
cheap.. they were adding the melamine to up the nitrogen and resulting protein count and selling it cheap...
Please put me on the ping list for people food. (I don’t have any pets.)
It’s only one list for both—do you mind?
Ground Beef Recalled in 5 States After Children Sickened by E. Coli
They put soy fillers in many of the pre-made patties. ????
Can we just add you and you can disregard the stories that are not of interest... the list is growing so we make certain everyone is covered?
same here.. the crickets in DC are certainly chirping on this... plus the networks all keep saying 16 - 30 dogs (which is actually the number of dogs that have died at the Menu Foods Test Food Facility). One vet in our small town alone has lost over 20 dogs.
Guess we should make this a contaminated food ping list — human and four-footed?
I think so too—I don’t think anyone will mind. It’s very important to have this information.
I think so and the more people we reach the better. This subject is every bit as important as any we cover on FR.
Sure...that will work. Thanks.
Anyway, I don’t think we’ll be getting the “people food” warnings as quickly as we got the pet food warnings.
A lot of old people in nursing homes will suddenly start dying of kidney failure. The FDA will take it’s good ole time getting around to investigating.
They’re already poisoning the old folks and the hypochondriacs who ask their docs for every drug they see advertized on TV. The drug companies are using these folks as guinea pigs. The list of side effects that they rattle off very quickly and incoherently usually outweighs any benefits. Not to mention the cost of the new drugs.
But that’s a topic for another thread.
The current theory I've been reading is that the chemical melamine was added deliberately in order to spoof quality tests into indicating the protein content was higher than it was. Protein contains nitrogen, starches and carbs don't, so the test for protein content is usually just a test for nitrogen content
Thanks for including me on the “ping” list. I appreciate it, even though the news is not good.
Any reason why the US should be importing ANY sort of rice or wheat products from China?? I mean we produce every sort of basic grain crop vastly more efficiently than China does. I mean, whatever ****head is responsible for this **** needs to be sued into oblivion.
