Muslim student gives life to save others in V Tech killings
Sky News ^ | Friday 20th April 2007 | Sky News

Posted on 04/20/2007 11:58:21 PM PDT by the scotsman

A survivor of the Virginia Tech massacre has been describing how a colleague died to protect others. Although badly injured, graduate student Waleed Shalaan distracted gunman Cho Seung-Hui to save another person from his bullets.

Waleed saved another student's life. The surviving student, who wishes to remain anonymous, told of Waleed's heroics through an email to his supervisor.

He describes how he was left uninjured after Cho's initial round of shots.

Meanwhile, Waleed had been wounded but was still alive.

However, when Cho later returned to the classroom to inspect for signs of life among his victims, the surviving student struggled to remain calm.

He believes he would have been shot dead were it not for Waleed's "protective movement" that distracted the gunman.

Cho turned and shot Waleed for a second time, killing him, before leaving the classroom.

Randy Dymond, a civil engineering professor, has said the student asked to him to tell the tale "so that the family of Waleed understands the sacrifice."

Shaalan's mother broke down when she heard Mr Dymond's account.

"He was trying to save someone else," she said repeatedly.

Dymond said Shaalan's body was taken to a Blacksburg mosque so classmates, teachers and friends could say goodbye before he was sent to Egypt for burial.'

The article said — “He believes he would have been shot dead were it not for Waleed’s “protective movement” that distracted the gunman.”

Definitely an “accident’ in the making. But, with the God of Abraham, Isacc and Jacob, there are *no accidents* and no impersonal “fate”. With the God of the Bible, all things are under His control (whether by direction action or “permissive” action [as we see in the book of Job]).

Thus, this student should be thanking the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for what *He* has given him — “life”...

We know there was one shooter. But did the kid’s know in the heat of the moment during all that confusion and mayhem know? Otherwise, I agree with what you said. I am certain the surviving student believes he was saved by the actions of the Muslim student. I don’t doubt that for a second.

I just think he is mis-interpreting what he saw. Maybe he will come forward with the full story of what the Muslim student said and did to distract Cho. Otherwise, I am flat convinced that the Muslim student moved involuntarily from his survival mechanism and not intentionally to save anybody.

Maybe we will learn more about this incident. My point is simple. The MSM won’t bother to check facts when the “hero” is a Muslim. They are going to go straight to press with the most glowing “possible” account, contrary facts notwithstanding. In this case, there are no contrary facts, just one lucky survivor’s confused opinion. But the MSM will make this poor dead Muslim student a Medal of Freedom winner if they can.

“Even Iraq has Christians.”

Most of the Christians who lived in Iraq have fled Tens of thousands are stranded in Lebanon...

Most of the Christians in Egypt are Copts and their ancestors were converted 2,000 years ago..

They have few rights and the women are forced to wear burquas to buy food etc

The original poster said — “Muslims lie.”

To which you responded — “So do Christians.”

To which I respond — The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob doesn’t lie, though. He makes it clear that He is our Creator God, that nothing which exists or has being, exists without Him having created it (outside of Himself, of whom is the uncaused and uncreated Being). And He says that there are no other gods besides *Him* and He is the One and Only true God.

So, instead of wondering whether Christians or Muslims lie — we should be paying attention to our Creator God who never lies...

I don’t agree with you that a Muslim would never act to save a non-Muslim. My only point to this thread is the MSM promotes pro-Muslim stories without any facts in evidence, and this is just another example of it. In this case, the evidence is very flimsy. It is the word of a shocked murder survivor who probably is not thinking really clearly and was probably under severe duress to register anything clearly at the time.

No, its all about making the sacrifice of JEWISH holocast survivor, Professor Livou Librescu, less or even null and void.

Hmmmm....thinking about what you're saying.

we are still there fighting and dying to bring freedom to the people of Iraq.

Our main goal is (and always has been) to stabilize the region in the interest of national security. Liberation for the Iraqis isn't the goal (warm and fuzzy though it may sound), but a welcome byproduct of the goal.

Iow, the Iraqis weren't liberated for liberation's sake. There are plenty of oppressed peoples around the world that aren't on our radar for liberation-intervention. Why? Because doing so isn't in our national security interest.

You said — “I don’t agree with you that a Muslim would never act to save a non-Muslim.”

Certainly, I would think you are right. There are certainly some Muslims who may act to save an infidel’s life.

HOWEVER, after doing so, the Imams will probably put out a fatwa against such a Muslim for going against the Koran and *death to the infidels* — and such a Muslim would probably have to flee for his life.

We would welcome such fleeing Muslims....

Is the unnamed source the same one that the MSM uses whenever they cite unnamed sources?

Just wondering.

How do you know Waleed is a hero? There are NO facts in evidence. You are swallowing the Mainstream media’s lie that this is a fact based on the impression of one lucky survivor who was no doubt in shock at the time.

Cite your facts. We have NO CLUE if Waleed was a hero. That is the problem. The MSM treats it as fact when it most definitely is NOT a fact. How could the surviving student possibly know the intent in the mind of Waleed when he made an unknown movement that is not even described in the article.

You are WAY jumping the gun buying the MSM’s lie that Waleed’s “heroism” is an established fact.

Thanks Jo

Local REPUBLICAN women send school supplies etc regularly to children in Iraq and Afghanistan..

We took the project on as an on-going support for the local people there....

Col Geren in our local TN National Guard gives us updates and just this past week I watched a slide show of grateful Moslem children who know that we love them and want to help...

"This is where open borders lead."

As do I.

I'll reconsider when I see it proven and reported in detail by a credible source.

The hero is DEAD and can’t recall the story himself. The WITNESS to the heroism decides to be anonymous. How does that serve the dead hero better than the witness going out openly talking about the heroism and how the dead student saved others? Can’t wait for this story to be buried if the witnesses remain anonymous for the fear of potential “media publicity.”

As a follow-up and to add a note of levity to such a discussion (if one could ever do so...), I could say —

There is a difference between a Muslim lying and a Christian lying. With a Muslim, you only have to see if his lips are moving. With a Christian, he sins when he lies and knows immediately something is wrong.

There could be a “little” grain of truth to that... *considering* that one of the *main tenets* of the Islamic faith is “Takiyya” which is to *LIE* through your teeth about your beliefs and faith in order to *deceive* the infidel — until you can kill him (usually by sawing off the head, doncha know...)

“Think CAIR” if you wonder about that...

Sad but true. I didn’t even consider that this could be made up. Frankly, I doubt it is made up. But you have shown me there is a very real possibility this could be completely made up based on the lies in the MSM from the fabricated letter about Bush that Dan Rather pushed on CBS to the many lies of Jason Blair in the NYT. It is possible. But it is not necessary. The delusion of a grateful survivor is more than enough for the MSM to take that tiny possibility and state it as a well-checked, well-sourced fact.

This is key:

Their ills are institutional, not just owing to isolated individuals. Their ideological and theological tenets are a root cause of their inability to co-exist with others in peace. They require sharia and submission, jihad and dhimmitude.

I think everyone here has a pretty odd impression of the average Muslim university student...

I’ve met many, but most are like the ethnic Jews who go to Shabbat dinner for the free booze and go home for Passover Seder because their parents make them.

I have two close Muslim friends.. The only religious expression I ever noticed was them not eating pork. They certainly get drunk and party and fornicate and worry about fashion and have the same insecurities and doubts and often the ebullience of every other typical college student.

In other words, their parents are Muslim.. So it’s fun to get them in trouble by putting beer cans or porn magazines in their room when their parents come to visit. That’s pretty much the only thing that ever came up, except joking around.. like I’ll call them towelhead, he’ll call me a dumb polack, et cetera.

The story should never have been printed because there are no facts to support the assertion that Waleed acted heroically. There is just the supposition by a lucky survivor and a biased media desperate for any story that paints the RoP in a positive light, no matter how flimsy the facts in evidence.
