Today's Victory for Traditional American Conservatism
vanity | 4/18/2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/18/2007 1:21:56 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Looks like today's Supreme Court ruling upholding the ban on partial birth abortion puts the lie to several RINO/moderate notions.

First, abortion is NOT a constitutional right. Second, a pro-life president can and does make a difference. Third, a ban on abortion can pass SCOTUS/Constitutional muster. Fourth, America is ready for a ban on all abortions. Fifth, traditional American conservatism CAN and DOES win.

Thank God for the pro-life President Bush and the Republican congress that enacted this ban and for the conservative court that upheld it!

The pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani must never ever be allowed to destroy the pro-life movement within the Republican party.

God Bless President Bush and Traditional American Conservatism!

Keep the faith!

Who says I don’t now? It just seems to me that many here wish to throw the baby out with the bath water over illegal immigration.

This really is good news. I don’t think you’re right, though, when you say Americans are ready to ban all abortions - with over a million performed anually? I do think the time for an overturn of RvW is ripe

Let’s let Planned Parenthood know how we feel today. Here is the membership email below. It was the only one I could email a note to other than the media relations person.

Finally, the Supremes uphold the vote of the people.

In the EPA case, they decided that the Executive and Legislative branches were unable to decide what is a pollutant and whether they wanted to deal with it.

In the Texas Sodomy case, the Supremes decided that States cannot be trusted to create or enforce criminal laws within their own borders.

Its all that much more suprising that the Supremes finally allowed any other Americans in any capacity the ability to decide anything. Hoorah!

Now, if John Paul Stevens can find it in his heart to retire to move to France.....

Promoting a Culture of Life

As a country, we must keep our pledge to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence. That is why we say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. Our goal is to ensure that women with problem pregnancies have the kind of support, material and otherwise, they need for themselves and for their babies, not to be punitive towards those for whose difficult situation we have only compassion. We oppose abortion, but our pro-life agenda does not include punitive action against women who have an abortion. We salute those who provide alternatives to abortion and offer adoption services, and we commend Congressional Republicans for expanding assistance to adopting families and for removing racial barriers to adoption. We join the President in supporting crisis pregnancy programs and parental notification laws. And we applaud President Bush for allowing states to extend health care coverage to unborn children. We praise the President for his bold leadership in defense of life. We praise him for signing the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. This important legislation ensures that every infant born alive – including an infant who survives an abortion procedure – is considered a person under federal law. We praise Republicans in Congress for passing, with strong bipartisan support, a ban on the inhumane procedure known as partial birth abortion. And we applaud President Bush for signing legislation outlawing partial birth abortion and for vigorously defending it in the courts.

-Republican Party Platform - 2004

Human Life Amendment

"SECTION 1. The right to life is the paramount and most fundamental right of a person.

SECTION 2. With respect to the right to life guaranteed to persons by the fifth and fourteenth articles of amendment to the Constitution, the word `person' applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, health, function, or condition of dependency, including their unborn offspring at every stage of their biological development including fertilization.

SECTION 3. No unborn person shall be deprived of life by any person: Provided, however, That nothing in this article shall prohibit a law allowing justification to be shown for only those medical procedures required to prevent the death of either the pregnant woman or her unborn offspring, as long as such law requires every reasonable effort be made to preserve the life of each.

SECTION 4. Congress and the several States shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

-Introduced by Sen. Jesse Helms - 1981

It might be unpopular here, but I think 1 more group deserves thanks for this bill.

They might be useless on some issues, and counterproductive to our nation’s progress on others, but 80 Democrats in Congress voted for this bill.

The New York Slimes has a blog item, 2008 Candidates on the Abortion Ruling. In it, Rudy is quoted:

The Supreme Court reached the correct conclusion in upholding the congressional ban on partial birth abortion. I agree with it.

That's it. Pretty stark, but I am of the opinion that he wants to leave this to states. Trying to reconcile here. Yes, I know his past statements, but his stance is not a deal-breaker, for me at least.

Yes, I know his past statements,

Are almost impossible to reconcile with this one.

He supported Clinton's veto of a PBA ban.

He recently said he could support a PBA ban as long as it had a provision for the life of the mother. However, the ban Clinton vetoed had such a provision.

And now he says he supports the SCOTUS decision, even though the ban does NOT have a provision for the life of the mother.

So tell us, which Rudy do we believe? The one who suddenly wants our vote? Or the one who didn't need our vote in the past?

How do these conclusions comport with the observation that Roberts and Alito weren’t even willing to sign on to Thomas’s separate dissent trashing Roe?

The opinion of the court didn’t even expressly confirm that the partial birth abortion ban will survive further challenge. It just said the law wasn’t so flawed as to be thrown out without being given a chance to operate.

Giuliani has stated many times that he believes a woman has a constitutional right to abortion. He IS an abortionist. Don’t be fooled by his current pandering for your vote. He is a liar and cannot be trusted. He must never be allowed to ascend to the presidency.

If they did that, they seriously jeopardize this President's ability to get a 3rd SCOTUS vacancy through. You know how quickly the MSM will jump on them (and thus Bush) for nominating proven "anti-choicers" to the court?
