As Jews worldwide honored on Monday the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust, a 75-year-old survivor sacrificed his life to save his students in Monday’s shooting at Virginia Tech college that left 32 dead and over two dozen wounded.

Professor Liviu Librescu, 76, threw himself in front of the shooter, who had attempted to enter his classroom. The Israeli mechanics and engineering lecturer was shot to death, "but all the students lived - because of him," Virginia Tech student Asael Arad - also an Israeli - told Army Radio.

Several of Librescu’s other students sent e-mails to his wife, Marlena, telling of how he blocked the gunman’s way and saved their lives, said the son, Joe.

"My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee," Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. "Students started opening windows and jumping out."

Liviu Librescu, was respected in his field, his son said.

"His work was his life in a sense," said Joe. "That was a good place for him to practice his research."

The couple immigrated to Israel from Romania in 1978 and then moved to Virginia in 1986 for his sabbatical, but had stayed since then, Joe told Army Radio.

I was thinking the same... The students were given a gift....and let's hope they see this gentleman as a shining example of humanity....

His name will be forever etched in my heart as one of God's angels....

A man of courage and selflessness. Such deeds stand out in a world of the selfish and the “me first” generation. He will be missed and his memory honored.

This incident is very interesting and could be important as the investigation proceeds. Since the article itself seems to indicate that this professor's intervention saved the students in that class, one cannot help but ask why.

Could it be that this particular professor was in some way the object of the killer's animosity and insane anger? It seems that in the case of another class,he peeked into the room several times and then proceeded to kill many. Truth is,I have no idea whether the murder of this professor stopped his killing but from the report it stopped or prevented the killing in this classroom,at least. I think it is worth pursuing.

Amazing heartfelt story of this man who lived through the Holocaust and went to meet his God after giving his own life to save others. Here is a Jew willing to sacrifice himself to save others no matter what religion they were. God could ask no greater perfection, no greater sign of love from man than this. God bless him forever.

I’ve often wondered what kind of life people live
after a narrow escape from death. Why did God spare
them? Some waste the gift. Not Professor Librescu.
He lived well, but his death had a purpose.

Well done Mr. Librescu. Thank you for showing us
what courage looks like.

God bless you and may those you saved live a life
that honors your sacrifice.

You said — “Well done Mr. Librescu. Thank you for showing us what courage looks like.”

There was another one, too. A girl whose boyfriend has a blog, put this information out. One girl was in a classroom where the shooter tried to get in. She (and I believe another student, also) held the door closed, while the shooter was shooting many rounds through the door. They were down low and he was shooting just above her. So, she wasn’t killed but did get hit by some bullet fragments. She’s in the hospital now.

The shooter did not get into that classroom and so she saved her classmates.

I had been foloowing this story with profound disgust and anger for what had happened at VT. When I first heard about what Librescu did here it was hard not getting choked up. A damn good mensch. We should all aspire to his courage. God bless him

You said — “God bless this man!”

And I’m sure you were talking about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob — because the false god of Islam is a different God.

Why mention Islam? Because this man was Jewish and the values that come from the Judeo-Christian heritage that we have in our society is completely different than the values that come from the Muslim societies around the world.

I mention it because this man comes from that background and he did give up his life in order to save his students. That’s what comes from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

But, from the false god of Islam, we see — that instead of protecting kids, they use them for shields. In the PA areas (Palestinian Authority) the terrorists and gunmen over there will grab kids, right off the street and drag them along, to use as shields. Also, they train kids from kindergarten up to be suicide bombers, brainwashing the kids into believing that the is the *highest thing* they can achieve in life.

Islam is a cult of death, while those who know the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob know life. There is a vast difference between the two.

Regards,
Star Traveler

P.S. — None of this talk is meant to indicate that the shooter had anything to do with Islam. He simply appears to be disturbed. This is just to contrast the differences, in real life, coming from the two different cultures.

This is quite the story.

This Professor it seems helped to keep the death toll from being even higher.

Amazing.

This kind of bravery was not unusual in my Father’s generation (WWII generation). I hope that kind of bravery has passed to other generations.

^^^
I suspect you could see it on any given day among the Generation-X and -Y young men stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
