NEW ORLEANS -- Dr. William Gray, the scientist known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster, on Friday called Al Gore "a gross alarmist" for making the Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.
"For someone of his statue (stature), he's a gross alarmist," Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference, where he delivered the closing speech.
"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Gray, 77, said.
A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's charges.
With his clutch of papers, simple presentations and off-the-cuff remarks, Gray is a fixture at the annual gathering of hurricane specialists and emergency planners, held this year in New Orleans.

Gore....soothsayer<<< Gore's no "soothsayer"!! Bullsayer maybe, but he ain't got no "sooth"!
...but our verb soothe is related to soothsayer, the word for one who tells the truth, especially beforehand.

I hear you. I spent more time than I want to remember wrestling with closure approximations to the Navier-Stokes equations. Most of the climate "research" skips over realistically-detailed models like you speak of, and just goes with a bunch of interacting lumped-parameter models. I love the "one-dimensional" models of the earth's atmosphere and oceans, they really capture the complexity of nature. (/sarc) Another problem is the extraordinary sensitivity of all the models to slight variations in physical constants which are only known to a few significant figures in the first place. (Variation of the dynamic viscosity of seawater with temperature and salinity, Mr. Gore?) Then iterate through 100 years of day/night cycles, tides, and all the other inputs on the system. And have you ever seen a climate model that made proper account of the small and variable but definitely non-zero amounts of geothermal heat that come into the environment through the "bottom?" The climate modelers love to make a pretty picture of "the radiative heat budget of the earth" with all the heat coming in and going out through the atmosphere. Of course geothermal heat (which is variable due to the internal "weather" of flows of magma this way and that in the earth's mantle, of which we know nearly zero, except when a volcano erupts to remind us of our ignorance of what's going on down there) is conducted into the environment (and convected in, by seawater flowing through hot vents in the crust), not radiated into it, so that heat doesn't fit into the radiative budget. Who cares if it's difficult to measure? They just blow it off with some constant that they hope gives an approximation to an average over time of heat input from the earth's mantle. It's just a fudge factor, as if it doesn't matter if a little more heat comes through the Atlantic seafloor, and less through Siberia, for a few years, and then just the opposite a few years later. They have no prayer of getting data about this, so they just pretend it doesn't matter and couldn't possibly throw off their 100-year climate predictions.
What's astonishing is that they think the people watching this are so stupid that we can't see through their BS. They must think everybody is as stupid as Algore. And of course the vast majority of MSM "journalists" are that stupid, they don't even know what questions to ask these monkeys.

"As a computer programmer for many years, I know you can make those models (i.e., programs) do anything you want them to do. I could write one that shows the earth is going to tilt on its axis 90 deg and reverse its spin if I wanted to."
If you could have that on my desk by Monday morning, that'd be great. Just put it next to your TPS reports.

Al Gore's not a scientist--he's an ass. Near-record cold here.
The weatherman on the CBS affiliate out of Des Moines just said, "Record cold and global warming--an interesting juxtaposition."
Global warming: fake, but accurate.

Sometimes I work with Orbit 959 Spectrum or MI Tech 3000. Those programs control big things.
Global warming isn't a problem until the chubby women take their clothes off:) There could be bad car wrecks.

Saved, to send to my brother and his wife who’ve just seen “inconvenient truth” and have turned into fanatics — I couldn’t get a word in as soon as I questioned the movie’s political agenda.

Somebody must be making money of this junk science somewhere.Of course they are!! Have you seen Algore's income info lately? He and his investor buddies are making millions handing out 'carbon credits', so rich folks can continue living the way they do, but won't feel guilty about it because they've 'bought protection' from Algore and his buddies.
I'm amazed that some news organization hasn't picked up on this yet. Algore runs around causing panic about the environment, and suggests folks buy carbon credits to offset their energy use, and by golly, he knows just where to get them! He's benefitting directly from the 'climate change' scare, and has the cojones to accuse anyone who disagrees of being in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry.

It has been pretty warm for thousands of years now. Look back at how short the high temp peaks were. And the one were in has lasted ten thousand years. I say were in for a cooling soon if anything.....

What exactly is Al Gore an expert in? Did he graduate with any kind of degree? I thought he was a lawyer but now I can’t remember hearing that he ever passed the bar. Is he just a professional doofus?

Dr. Gray will soon issue a retraction and be forced to submit to the Global Warming Religion upon pain of loss of funds and his reputation!

“Somebody must be making money of this junk science somewhere.”
One must also follow the money...up the great grant mill
that funds all of these nuts.
There are billions for the faithful, but zip for the skeptics.
You must take the vows to be accepted by the Church of Goreon.

Since when has knowing what you're talking about been a prerequisite for liberal pontification?

Typical AP release this probably late on a Friday. Not to mention they had to throw in he voted against gore in 2000.
Why do I doubt this will be in the NY Times anytime soon.

No doubt putting out tons of carbon at 510 mph on a Gulfstream V

She might try to take away his PhD because he is not on the GW bandwagon.

If the project has obvious merit, it shouldn't be a problem getting support for it.
Like building new refineries, nuclear plants, or drilling for oil domestically?
