I can't help thinking that Pelosi got suckered into telling Assad about Omert's peace offer. Bear with me.
Think what you want about Pelosi, but she is not a politically stupid woman. She has attained the third highest position of power in the US through cut throat politics and by being shrewd.
There is simply no way a person with her experience and so much to gain/lose in this thatshe would go to Syria and make up a story about delivering a message of peace from Israel.
Israel doesn't want the US to leave Iraq. Pelosi is the leader of a movement to do exactly that. What better way to pull the rug out from underneath her and that movement than by privately asking her to deliver a message of peace to Assad...then denying it?
Pelosi would not even think about it and jump at the chance to establish herself as an international diplomat and negotiator of peace. That Israel would ask her instead of the US State Dept. to deliver such a message would be a crushing PR blow to Rice and the Bush Admin.
She does exactly that and Israel yanks the rug out from under her making her a national joke, destroying her credibility and putting a major dent in the dims push to pull the troops out of Iraq. How badly do you have to screw up as a lib to get the WaPo criticizing you?
As far as the Bush Admins involvement, who knows? But this sure smells like Carl Rove....heheh.
Well, this is what the moonbats think. That the evil Bush admin got Israel to hang Pelosi out to dry.
After all, they all know Pelosi is honest and full of integrity and Bush eats babies for breakfast.

My thought previously was that she was so high on herself, she lost her perspective on reality.

I think she was given the message that Isreal was ready to talk provided that... I think she took on her own to drop the provided that part hoping that both sides would agree to meet and she’d be the big hero. She’s been very successful not telling the whole truth and hearing only the parts she wants to hear. I think Prime Minister Pelosi duped herself into believing what she wanted to believe, like so many of her ilk.
I’d like to think your take is true. President Bush has been the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House. Pelosi’s jaunt was intended as a finger in his eye. It’d be a fine joke if she got set up and played.
Republican or democommunist: If you visit a country providing the means of killing American troops you’re a traitor, period.

I find it very funny that the moonbats are eternally blaming anyone but themselves for every mistake they make. I don't think they even realize that it's their complete lack of self-assesment (among other things, of course) that causes them to keep making these mistakes.
I suppose there's some truth to that and your thought on this could have some merit.
However, she has no one else to blame for trying to put murtha in as House Majority Leader and that was stupid, really stupid.

That is an interesting possibility. Israel takes a risk in this situation though. To be sure, Pelosi is no friend of Israel. However, if your scenario occured, they will have created a powerful and committed enemy. If the Dems gain in power there could be some serious payback.
