O'Reilly & Geraldo Almost Come To Blows
Mediabistro.com ^ | Thursday, Apr 05 | Unknown

Bill O'Reilly and Geraldo Rivera had one of the most heated war of words I've ever seen on cable news Thursday.

An illegal immigrant was charged in the drunk driving death of two girls in Virginia Beach recently. Oliver Willis says Geraldo "called out O'Reilly's xenophobia for exactly what it was. This drove Bill O'Reilly insane. I was almost certain he was going to reach across the table and hit Geraldo."

The most vicious part is on YouTube:

A minute later, after O'Reilly abruptly changed the subject because time was running out ("what are you doing on your show this weekend?"), Geraldo said: "I think that one of the wonderful things about our network is that we are fair and balanced."

"People can decide whether you're right or I'm right. And they will decide that I'm right," O'Reilly responded

They do come across because we offer them jobs.
People like to pay less money for stuff, but in this case employers need to be fined $500, then next time $1000 and then $10,000.
Do that and this nonsense will stop.

A lot of the people coming here are nice family people, but we just can’t support the world and educate all their kids at a cost of $14,000 a year for each illegal.

A drunk illegal alien killed the director of A Christmas Story and his son just this week in California.. happens all the time and people like Geraldo want to ignore it.

I think the best point made in the argument is Geraldo’s assertion that FNC is the only network where two people can truly and passionately debate both sides of an issue. You won’t see that on MSNBC or CNN.

Fox’s own coverage is biased. The original show had Geraldo dissing Lou Dobbs. They don’t show that now.

You see both sides every night on Lou Dobbs.

They’ve had these staged fights before. They were both laughing at the end. Insulting to the viewers.

Geraldo is dead wrong about his position.... I was furious with how Shep handled the segment on his show and sent off an email to the effect... he allowed Juan Hernandez to go on and on and hardly allowed Arpaio to get a word in...

Could you let GWB know this?

He wants to believe otherwise.

I am not so sure that this wasn’t staged.

Shep showed his bias also. I started to e-mail but thought what the he!!. Their minds are made up so I just turned them off.

I'm a local and I hope it does affect tourism. That's the ONLY way City Council or the Mayor will pay any attention. The only thing they care about is tourism dollars. Maybe with this black eye the City Council will prevail upon Chief Jacocks and force him to order his department to follow the law.

But, just to set the record straight...Virginia Beach is not a 'Sanctuary City', Mayor Meyra does not have the authority to make such a pronouncement. Our city government is composed of a weak mayor, strong council and strong City Manager who answers to the council. Also...Ramos only had one contact with the VA Beach police prior to this tragedy and that was for public intoxication in October 2006. His other arrests were in Cheasapeake VA. And in Chesapeake the police department said they DO call the Fed's...and the Fed's promptly ignore those calls.

A staged Dog & Pony Show.

The question is, who's the dog and who's the pony?

1- no border fence(reminds me of the Berlin Wall and other walls or fences remember Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall" this seems to fly in the face of that famous statement), let the border agents and DEA do their jobs as best they can at the border.

That's ridiculous. Your analogy just doesn't work. The Berlin Wall was built to keep the people in...the state became a prison. Our border fence is to keep people out who have NO right to be here!

I actually think they are good friends. You don’t get that passionate in an arguement unless its with someone who’s opinion you value.

And Snopes never lies.

How about this description in his own words of his hiring by ABC news director Al Primo:

"By the way," he [Primo]said, shaking on our new relationship, "what's Gerry short for?"

"Gerald."

"Gerald?" he tried. "It's not very Puerto Rican, is it?"

"No," I said. "I guess not, but it's better than Sidney."

"Sidney?"

"That's what my Jewish mother wanted to call me."

He laughed politely at the exchange, but his smile seemed forced. I sensed he was disappointed. After all, he was going to some trouble to hire a Puerto Rican reporter; surely, he wanted to at least get his money's worth.

"If you want something more Latin," I suggested, "my father and his side of the family call me Geraldo."

"Geraldo?" he said, and this time his smile was genuine. "Geraldo Rivera." He tested the sound, rolling the Rs and learning what millions were about to, that the G in Spanish is pronounced H. "That's better," he said finally. "Let's go with Geraldo."

That sounds like being a chameleon to fit the market.

Capt. Tom,

Your logic is flawed. First of all, no one lures someone into their home to be robbed. Second of all, Geraldo is absolutely correct. Many of these people are LURED here. I worked for a company that actually had an in house coyote that made trips to Mexico for that purpose.

Those who discount the “luring” are either ignorant, are employers, or are in the pockets of employers in some way.

Most who discuss this issue publicly, as did GR and O’Reilly, are quite cowardly in what they choose to mention. If you listen to a number of them over time there is one common thread. They either refuse to discuss employers, or they relegate a minisule amount of time to pointing to employers as being the genesis of the whole problem.
