Here's a heads up for the Giuliani campaign. It's coming. It's coming very soon. Beware. Run for your lives! As I write this, there is plotting going among grassroots religious conservatives in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and many other states. They want to take down Rudy and they plan to do everything in their power to do it. I received this email from an influential Republican activist who, lets just say, has an extensive mailing list among the conservative grassroots network. Here's what he told me:
"If Rudy Giuliani is put up for President by the Stupid Party, I will work 40 hours a week as a volunteer to destroy his candidacy for President; that is how important the prolife position -- and other social issues-- is to many people of faith. Sure, the Evil Party might get control of the White House again, and the Stupid Party might therefore go the way of the Whig Party in the early 1800's, but so be it. The Republican Party must NEVER nominate a pro-abortion candidate. That would be far worse than the Republican Party putting up a pro-slavery candidate in the mid-1800's. That is how strong many of us feel David. Many of us will also be putting in 40 hours a week during the primary/caucus season to defeat Giuliani at all costs."
Tough words. Don't think for a second that these activists aren't serious. They are. They know Rudy is getting some traction from social conservatives and they are not going to take for granted that Giuliani will fade once his views are known. As these activists galvanize, they could star in a movie.
But the reality we all must face, whichever way it cuts (for Rudy or against him), is that for most Americans, and in reality, the only issue that really matters is 9/11. How we deal with that will determine the survival of America and the West. Today, we are in Sparta's shoes. The only question worth asking is, "Who will do a better job of killing our enemies?"
Buck W said: Replace "Rudy" with "Bush", "Cheney", "Rove", etc., and your quote could have come from the progressive democrat book of talking points.
The point of the matter is this: Rudy has already proven he thinks he is above the law when he refused to comply with federal immigration laws. He also took, illegally, records from his time as Mayor of NYC and hid them, thereby denying the public the right to review them, this is illegal. Both of these incidents says Rudy thinks he is above the law. They are not manufactured incidents, they are real and factual. His record tells the story and if you are for Rudy you are not a conservative, republican maybe, but not conservative.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is wrong. Does the bible ask you to recognize an entity less evil than the devil but more so than God? No, it doesn't. Compromise is the reason the republican party is no longer the party of conservatives(conservative as defined by today's terms). Compromise IS surrender. You people who want to vote for Rudy are the ones surrendering, not those of us who want a real conservative to be nominated. Too bad you are too blind to see that fact.
"...if you are for Rudy you are not a conservative."
False proposition. Intellectual elitism is creeping in.
I am a Giuliani supporter. However, if Hunter, Romney, Thompson (either one), or Gingrich win the nomination, I would heartily support the winner.
Nominating Giuliani would redefine the Republican party right out of existence. It might still be called the Republican party, but it would be eviscerated and crawling with liberals.
I will quote myself to you in response: "The time to weed RINOs out of the party is during the primaries, and NOT the general election".
Otherwise what you say makes no sense at all. I will work for the conservative cause during the primaries, but then will hold my nose and vote for the (R) in the general election.
That's fine, and I have no quarrel with that. But he is to the right of Hillary on enough that if he makes it through the primaries (a big IF as far as I'm concerned) I will hold my nose and vote for him.
The time to get rid of Rudy is during the primaries, and not in the general election. I think that's where my stance differs from the scorched earth conservatives.
That's where I stand.
That's why its called the stupid party.
Nope, you are wrong. There is no intellecutal eletism except in the Rudy camp. Rudy is a liberal, one whose values are far removed from conservatives.
Until you give them nuclear weapons instead of sparklers.
But I do agree, I'd rather have McCain instead of Rudy's tendencies to abuse power.
"Another election when the big thinkers are working to defeat republicans."
Given the current "line up" of first tier Republican candidates (Guilliani & McCain), I'd have to say that the Republican machine is already working to defeat themselves. Pro-life, pro-gun, pro-smaller government Republicans are NOT going to vote for either of them.
Rudy especially is offensive with his Liberal-while-Republican stances on so many issues. McCain on the other hand is, well, he's just crazy --I say that as an Arizonan.
"Nope, you are wrong. There is no intellecutal eletism..."
Statement and contradiction in consecutive sentences.
The RNC would rather throw elections (by steamrollering the selection process to give us mediocre candidates) than give a place at the table to serious Christians. Folks loyal to a transcendent God are harder to buy.
Yep! Could not have said it better.
