JPEG compresses data by looking at blocks of pixels and looking for patterns in them. It is pretty easy to spot JPEG compression in an image because you can easily see blocks of pixels when you blow them up.
When I look at this picture, enlarged in Photoshop, I noticed images in the foreground had much larger blocks than images midway, which were larger still than those in the skyline in the back. I tried to see if I could capture discrete blocks, and here is what I got:
This is the foreground (white headband woman) which seems to have a discrete block size of 33x33 pixels
This is the midway (somewhere in the middle of the crowd) which seems to have a discrete block size of 9x9 pixels
And this is the background (somewhere near the horizon or the sky) which seems to have a discrete block size of 8x8 pixels
I would conclude this is a cobbled togther image. Someone please let me know if my analysis is flawed...the block sizes between midway and back are not great, and might be the same, but the foreground is MUCH larger.

For me, the bottom line is this......if the actual freak parade at any point resembled what this altered still attempts to portray, the media would have been playing multiple video versions taken from multiple vantage points along the way to the Pentagon, and esp AT the Pentagon.......and everything I saw on teevee was tight shots in video just like they are every time the media wants to pretend that some gathering was bigger than it was.
Darn. Now I have been looking at it too much, and I think my analysis is flawed. I just didn't blow it up quite big enough.

I'd say doctored. Beyond the bottom 1/4 and the left side, there are only signs, no faces. That is not possible, if you think about it. There'd have to be a random face, here and there.
Don't use too much explosive, else it will be hell to reassemble.

Looking at the bottom photo:
The girl in the grey sweater on the right rear, in front of the news van, is the same size as the people in the front of the photo.
On the left, there appears to be something wrong with the lamp posts and the people/scenery behind them.
