White House creates obstacle in visa issuance for Iran president (Updates to add quotes)
Tehran, March 23, IRNA - The White House has created obstacle in issuing visa for Iranian president to take part in the meeting of the Security Council.
President mahmoud Ahmadinejad decided to go to New York to defend Iranian right at the Security Council debate on Iranian nuclear program on Saturday.
Deputy Foreign Minister for International and Legal Affairs Abbas Araghchi expressed regret at absence of cooperation on part of the US Administration for issuing visa for the Iranian president.
"Despite completing application formality for the visa and the US Administration officials promises to grant visa at the earliest possible time, the visa is not available for the time being. It should have been issued sometime ago," he said.
"It seems the US Administration is following its unilateral approach by visa refusal for the Iranian president. It is blatant violation of the consular undertaking of the UN host country in dealing with visa requests for officials of the United Nations Member States and another indication of the US ill-intention toward Iranian nuclear program."
Or, assuming he did, if this means the Iranians have changed tactics?
I would be shocked if the State Department refused a visa for Ahmadinejad -- now, refusing visas for members of his entourage, I can see, depending on what kind of thugs he's keeping close to himself these days...
Mr Ahmadinejad,
Let the fifteen British military personnel seized by Iranian Rev Guards in non-Iranian territorial waters go - maybe we'll talk about a visa.
Why not move the UN to Tehran? That way, this knucklehead could rant and rave in front of the Security Council whenever he liked.
This is going to be a very complicated story today. The US agreed to the visa, it was announced earlier today that he would be coming. Then the report of the taking of the British soldiers appeared. Now they are saying the visa was refused.
That was the earliest report that I saw. Subsequent reports have limited it to British sailors.
Could this be steo #2 ?
They've heard that there's a standing warrant for his arrest for participating in kidnapping and holding hostage the American diplomats from our embassy back in the 70s. That is an act of war and voids any diplomatic immunity.
Serves AllMadJihad right !
I think in a perfect world you give him a visa.... meet him at the airport... and then give him a ride to Gitmo and move on with the business of getting rid of terrorism and terrorists.
well rules are rules......even for ruthless muzzie midgets...
I should just HOPE there are obstacles to issuing him a visa.
Maybe we should allow him in - and then have a special forces team seize him when he steps off of the plane. It should take at least 444 days to negotiate his freedom.
LOLOL
I agree that there is a connection between the taking of the British personnel and Ahmadinejad's sudden announcement that he can't go to the US, whether or not we actually refused the visa. But what exactly would his objective be? Just to continue with provocations for the heck of it?
I can't believe the British sailors were seized without his knowledge or approval, so there must be some plan here. (It's just a little hard for rational minds to determine what it is, I suspect.)
The WH will decide if he gets a visa or not, just the same way the WH gave one to Jerry Adams over the objection of the State Department. The buck stops in the WH.
