John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. Itll be another couple of days before theres complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

The campaign continues, because it is so important that John be president, they both agree.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the short term. Likely, they are somewhat in denial immediately following the revised diagnosis/prognosis. Similarly, Elizabeth is feeling fine now, except for the pain from the fractured rib.

It sounds like he's continuing and the first reports were, as they often are, just wrong.

No she's not. I pray for her recovery and for the Lord to have mercy on her but she's not a child of God by any stretch of the imagination."What if you're wrong"

From the posts on this thread, it looks like everybody's doing pretty well at the forgiveness thing. But you're right, the irony was a tasty dessert.

I know. Who will care for the children when she's getting treatment and sick as a dog while he's campaigning? So much for "it's all about the children". Not his own, apparently.

I don't think it's a normal turnaround time ... I'm sure alot of strings were pulled
When my sister in law was diagnosed with her brain tumor .. she was able to have her surgery scheduled very quickly mainly because she was a head nurse and knew the right people

Is this normal turnaound time now for such things or am I being naive because he's a presidential candidateMore likely it's the malpractice trial lawyer factor.

I lost my mother to cancer when I was 7. She was 28. My life was never the same. My prayers for this family and these children.

We have had way too much cancer in our family. You name a type and chances are that I know someone who has had it. My uncle died of bone cancer.

I sincerely hope she will be around to see her children grow up. I think the press conference was contrived and he has a real quest for power. This will boost his campaign coffers. More importantly I would hope this incident would open up a public discussion about the use of fertility drugs in a women 50 yrs. old and what if anything it may have had to do with her cancer. I don't know just asking.

Was your sis in clinical trials? If so, that was courageous in itself along with such a strong dose regimen.
My Mom was in clinical trials - down at M D Anderson in Houston. Yes, those three years were a precious gift.
Damn cancer.

NO...it is not like having diabetes.
That may be something they are telling their small children...but they need to admit it isn't.
It also doesn't help people newly diagnosed with diabetes to be told that.
