John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. Itll be another couple of days before theres complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."
That's always been my understanding too, Carolinamom.
>>>I thought Stage IV cancer is terminal, didn't know that it was treatable at that point.
Treatment only delays the inevitable.
Then again, maybe it's not so odd.
Thanks for the comic relief on an otherwise serious thread, Jack.
May God be with the Edwards' family and use this situation for His glory. Amen.
prayers for Mrs Edwards..... she needs to be with her young and adult children now..... not on the campaign trail.. haven't they just a recently built a new beautiful home?
I guess I'm just dumfounded.... saw too many friends die within a year of stage IV
It's treatable, not curable. At this point it's about prolonging life and keeping it from spreading further.
No she's not. I pray for her recovery and for the Lord to have mercy on her but she's not a child of God by any stretch of the imagination.
I was a military mom too. Our daughter-in-law could sure have used the comfort and support of our son when their first child died in the womb, but he had to soldier-on. There are many soldiers serving right now who's families are facing illnesses and other personal sorrows. Anyhow, there is no need to have an argument over this. Some people choose to try to keep their lives as normal as possible, some can't or choose not to. I won't judge any of them for what they decide is best for their family. It really is none of my business.
Of course he is going to say that. Who is going to vote for him, thinking that he could very well lose his wife while in the White House.
Sounds like our experiences are similar...but with my mom, it was more like a year and a half, and the last 3.5 months were not good at all...
Thank you for your son or daughter's service. :)
However, it is also public and political, which reconciles perfectly in the world of psychobabble and liberal spin.
.
That's exactly what sent my breast cancer survivor friend to the doctor. She too has received devastating news that the breast cancer has returned and it's aggressive.
I'm sure Alex Jones can prove that Edwards was held down and injected with cancer cells for the benefit of Hillary at the order of Cheney.
Oh, and remember when she made some unkind comments about the Cheneys and their daughter? That was unclassy.
i can't see how she will have the physical strength to be on the campaign trail. i, too, have lost close family and friends in short order after it entered stage 4.
My sister had Stage IV ovarian cancer and was given six months to live; she went to Chapel Hill and let them do virtually anything they wanted to to her, including stem cell replacement; she was one of the first women in this country to have Taxol (in massives doses I might add).
She lived three good years, too. Three years I wouldn't have given up for anything.
