TUESDAY, March 20, 2007, 10:11 a.m. By Meg Jones and Bob Purvis 21 arrested in recruiting station protest
Police arrested 21 people last night for disorderly conduct during an Iraq War protest outside the Army recruiting center near the UWM campus, said Deputy Chief Brian O'Keefe said this morning.
Officers were called to the 3100 block of Oakland Ave. around 8 p.m., where Iraq War protesters clad in black, carrying torches and wearing ski masks were reportedly setting off smoke bombs and throwing paint as they approached an Army recruiting center on the block, Sgt. Eric Pfeiffer, of the Milwaukee Police Department, said last night.
Someone threw an object through the recruitment center's window and spread what appears to be human waste inside before running off, Pfeiffer said.
Of the 21 arrests, three were juveniles with the youngest 13 years old. O'Keefe did not have addresses for the protesters.
If you witnessed the protest and vandalism last night and have photos you're willing to share, send them to jsmetro@journalsentinel.com.
Note: indymedia.org has additional photos of the protest and an ongoing discussion (Warning: offensive language) about the tactics.

TUESDAY, March 20, 2007, 2:21 p.m. By Meg Jones UPDATE: Info on protesters released
The 21 protesters arrested last night on suspicion of disorderly conduct during an anti-Iraq War protest outside the Army recruiting station near the UWM campus included five females and 13 males ages 17 to 24, according to jail booking logs released this afternoon.
They were all issued municipal citations and ordered to show up for court at a later date.
Nine of the adults arrested were from Milwaukee, six were from West Bend and one each from Waukesha, Wauwatosa and Madison. Eight were teenagers. Three juveniles were also arrested, but their information was not provided by authorities.
The protesters who were cited, according to the booking log, are:
Kelsey M. Kazik, 20, Milwaukee; Sara Keiza, 17, Milwaukee; Jillian Duckwitz, 21, Milwaukee; Richard A. Ketcham, 22, Milwaukee; Amy M. Barger, 19, West Bend; Jessica L. Brooks, 18, West Bend; Craig R. Barringer, 20, Waukesha; Jonathon W. Wilson, 17, Wauwatosa; David W. Clerkin, 21, Madison; Derek W. Johnson, 17, West Bend ; Nathan J. Bartelt, 20, West Bend; Thomas P. Buckholt, 17, Milwaukee; Jeffrey G. Lavato, 18, West Bend; Andrew L. Ortlieb, 24, Milwaukee; and Kathryn E. Jacobs, 20, Milwaukee.
Outside the Army recruiting station this afternoon barricades were set up next to glass shards that littered the sidewalk from broken windows.
No one was inside the recruiting center when the building was vandalized, said Pat Grobschmidt, public affairs officer for Army recruiting in Milwaukee, which includes eight stations in metro Milwaukee. She said there have been protests at the center in the past and prior vandalism, though she did not know the last time the Army recruiting station had been vandalized.
"Soldiers defend the right of all Americans to peacefully express their point of their view. We're dismayed that their actions are anything but peaceful," said Grobschmidt.
The station at 3133 N. Oakland Ave. was open for business today. It was the only Army recruiting center of the eight sites, which include Kenosha and Waukesha, that was damaged Monday. The rest of today's posts...
Just supporting those troops.

Deport and decitizen their "patriotic" a$$e$ to iran post haste!
When the stuff hits the fan, these masked cowards will wonder why.
you have to wonder - whose job was it to procure and transport the human feces?
"Hey bob, we need a few pounds of human feces for the protest tonight - can you round some up?"
They are idiots. I always thought the major reason for protests during Vietnam was because of the draft. Am I wrong? Im too young to remember but did the protests during the Vietnam War occur before the draft started?
Anti-American protests here at home have always been instigated by the left. The participants are what the Communists refer to as "Useful Idiots" or "Dupes".
All they had to do was squeeze their heads, and it oozes out their ears.
The protests during the Vietnam war were the same as they are today. They wanted us to get out and let Vietnam collapse, and they did it by defunding the war in Congress, which is what they will do with the Iraq War, if the Democrats have their way.
demestic terrorists
domestic terrorists
Like heck they will. They'll just chalk it up to "Bush's fault" in a knee-jerk reaction.
Probably children and grandchildren of '60's radicals. Don't make the same mistake twice. Lock 'em up.
Deport them to Cuba.
The protests ended when the draft ended.
