A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I was looking out the window after our Ice/rain/snow storm we had Friday/Saturday. I can't wait for this to melt. Breathing a sigh of relief, Oh how I'm so thankful this week is officially Spring!

It is enjoyable having 4 seasons. Winter just seems to be the longest. Gardening and birding are my love. Each year, I look so forward to spring and all that is to be done.

Recently we have moved. My former yard was filled with gardens and birds. Now, a new beginning. Soon I'll be putting up birdhouses, planting and enjoying the warm sun. This yard is my new palette to create on.
What do you look forward to with Spring?

I thought a poem for this spring thread would be perfect. I searched and searched on the internet and found nothing I truly loved reading. I went to my ping page and saw this posted by NicknamedBob. Beautiful! Thank you so much NicknamedBob :)

Sonnet to Almost Spring

The flowers stir, and stretch their tender shoots,
Awakened by a warmth come softly seeping,
“Rise up!” the call has traced their hidden roots,
To rouse them from their winter’s peaceful sleeping.

The den of slumbers has become,
A din of noisy childish clatter.
Impetuous and impish in its sum,
They split the earth and clamber up its ladder.

Emerging into sunlit air, and softening caresses,
Of nurture at its basest form, the soil on which we stand,
Which all too quickly grips them and compresses,
As night falls much too early in the land.

False spring has lured them out. Cruel season’s dying play,
Receding from the shores of Spring, the Winter ebbs away.

Our hyacinths have finished their season. Waiting now for the orange and lemon tree to blossom forth. A light breeze brings their fragrance in through the open windows.

yes, it does & also here just being "patient" & trusting God in all things.

Well I think I better do a few last minute things(fill pet food dishes), do my eye drops & PM anti=noninflammatory & allergy tabs & try to sleep.

I love spring & it is always nice to dream about flowers, warm weather, sweet romance & good friends to share it all with...

night all!

We have a really nice big half-circle patio, but I have never figured out what to do for shade. It faces west, so we can seldom use it because we just bake in the heat.

I love wisteria-covered covers, too, but it also attracts bees. EEK! :D

... so when you can't find a poem, you just "make one to fit"..

All poems are made to fit.

It's a rather Procrustean art. Poets combine the skills of jigsaw puzzlers and whittlers -- we make it fit!

I'm glad the e-mail was so well-received. I know it was a welcome message to me.... after another one of those days at work...ugh

I actually don't have much of that romance feeling like I used to. Now I'm older, I like plants. Enjoying the birds singing more in the morning; little chirps.

Went on a lovely walk yesterday and passed sweet peas along the fence at the convent on the hill; they're just starting to bloom. There's nothing like that fragrance.

I discovered once that there is a definite difference in energy flow from winter to spring. During winter, the energy goes downward. Once it is spring, I can feel energy oozing UPWARD from the earth. Is it just my imagination?

I enjoy looking forward to Holy Week and Easter, also.

Oh, I'm so jealous. :) There is still over a month before I see anything getting ready to bloom. I'd love to see the Blue Bonnets. LuvW showed me some pictures she had taken. One day I have to get to TX when they are blooming. I did try to grow them once without success. I'd love to smell Jasmine.

I'm sorry about your back but you are smart to know when to rest.

I checked some food we had here last night and the numbers on some pouches were recalled. It made me feel so awful. It is scary. She's got the best now. ;) I'm grateful she is fine.

Aw, Bridget is a great name for you kitty. She's having good cooking now. ;)

I lack energy in the winter also. Once spring comes I bounce right back. Big difference.

Do you bring in the fruits and use them?

Absolutely. Our oranges are Valencias - great for fresh orange juice. Last years crop are just now turning sweet.

With the lemons, there's an old saying around here, "When you have a lemon tree, you and all your neighbors will have fresh lemons."

Lemon tree very pretty
and the lemon flower is sweet
but the fruit of the poor lemon
is impossible to eat...
