A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I was looking out the window after our Ice/rain/snow storm we had Friday/Saturday. I can't wait for this to melt. Breathing a sigh of relief, Oh how I'm so thankful this week is officially Spring!

It is enjoyable having 4 seasons. Winter just seems to be the longest. Gardening and birding are my love. Each year, I look so forward to spring and all that is to be done.

Recently we have moved. My former yard was filled with gardens and birds. Now, a new beginning. Soon I'll be putting up birdhouses, planting and enjoying the warm sun. This yard is my new palette to create on.
What do you look forward to with Spring?

I thought a poem for this spring thread would be perfect. I searched and searched on the internet and found nothing I truly loved reading. I went to my ping page and saw this posted by NicknamedBob. Beautiful! Thank you so much NicknamedBob :)

Sonnet to Almost Spring

The flowers stir, and stretch their tender shoots,
Awakened by a warmth come softly seeping,
“Rise up!” the call has traced their hidden roots,
To rouse them from their winter’s peaceful sleeping.

The den of slumbers has become,
A din of noisy childish clatter.
Impetuous and impish in its sum,
They split the earth and clamber up its ladder.

Emerging into sunlit air, and softening caresses,
Of nurture at its basest form, the soil on which we stand,
Which all too quickly grips them and compresses,
As night falls much too early in the land.

False spring has lured them out. Cruel season’s dying play,
Receding from the shores of Spring, the Winter ebbs away.

okay. that was fun. HOw are you? I am having a rare time here up & half alert . When I came back from my regular Monday outing with friend Patty, I did take a two hour nap before 24. Set my alarm. Last time I took a nap before 24 I slept until 2 AM!

I do have an early morning commitment so need to crash soon.

Enjoyed the email about the "angel" at the gas station.

I agree Dolly. That is tacky. I could not have done that. Though, there were a few I did take. I didn't leave empty hole though. There was no way to over winter even if they gave plants to me. So, it's a new challenge. :)

In Springtime, I look forward to romance! Love! Flirtation! Appreciation!

"O, how this spring of love resembleth
The uncertain glory of an April day;
Which now shows all the beauty of the sun,
And by and by a cloud takes all away."

--The Two Gentlemen of Verona (I, iii, 84-87)

It's cherry blossoms from Last Year's Thread.

I was looking for another poem to post about Spring.

Like GeeBee, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so ...

Good Evening (((Dita!))) :)
How are you? I purchased new dog food brand today. She loved it. I couldn't believe how she enjoyed it and ate it right up. Maybe she knew something wasn't right. Or maybe I just got her really good food. ;)

you do with poetry what I do with Jewelry Bob.. if I have an outfit & nothing exactly "works" that i already have, I make something(earrings, necklace) if I have time. this is the beaded stuff.

I am embarrassed to tell how much jewelry I have. The two LARGE clothing dressers in my room are full of jewelry. That & bathing suits are my weakness.

I dont go crazy with shoes/purses like many women, but ah.. jewelry..

so when you can't find a poem, you just "make one to fit"..

thanks hon

that sounds pretty good to me.. might trade some times of rolling in mud or cleaning up the yard for some sweet romance!

Thanks! Sneaky fellow that I am, you can also read this as a spiritual message.

I am so devious.

Yes the jasmine has a lovely scent! I did think about the kitty knocking the tall, narrow vase over..but she is so dainty with her steps that so far nothing has been knocked over in the house.

My yard needs some attention..but I had put off this chore so long..I had to quit procrastinating. My back is just something I've learned to live with..I have to stop and rest in bed when it gets excruciating. My kitty, Silky, has loved the open closet and bookcase doors, the piles of papers on the bed, the boxes of papers, the empty boxes..

There are redbuds and flowering plums blooming and I am looking forward to the bluebonnets!..For those I must drive as they are on roadsides. I do know a vacant lot nearby that may still have wildflowers..I just did a little drive around Sunday to see what is blooming in my area.

I have one bud opened on the pink dogwood tree...It has been losing lots of lower limbs over the years and I have studied every branch to see if it has leaf or flower buds. Most do..some don't..I keep thinking it is going to die but it hangs on and it now well above the roof line...It is not native to this area..I was told this one came from Arkansas. The white dogwoods are native.

Sometimes, they're ready for a change of chow. The cat will let me know by snubbing hers, so I have to go searching for a new, more enticing brand.

Yikes, this pet food thing is scary. I checked the headlines a little while ago. I'm cooking chicken for Brigid; it's easy and she loves it, snoozing away now.

I'm okay... had a rough day though, so will hit the sheets soon.

some folks still use the old fashion awnings but they are pretty classy looking. I also like the patios/decks with the wooded shade producers/often w/wisteria etc atop. thos provide the shade from blazing sun.
