Mayan leaders announced that priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after US President George W. Bush visits next week.
"That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture," Juan Tiney, the director of a national association of indigenous people and peasant farmers, said Thursday.
Bush's seven-day tour of Latin America includes a stopover beginning late Sunday in Guatemala. On Monday morning he is scheduled to visit the archaeological site Iximche on the high western plateau in a region of the Central American country populated mostly by Mayans.
Tiney said the "spirit guides of the Mayan community" decided it would be necessary to cleanse the sacred site of "bad spirits" after Bush's visit so that their ancestors could rest in peace. He also said the rites - which entail chanting and burning incense, herbs and candles - would prepare the site for the third summit of Latin American Indians March 26-30.
OK, hopefully BUSH will wake up and turn the "migrant worker brothers" away at the border.
LOL!
Get back to me.
who they gonna slaughter.
Most Mayans don't know who Bush is and don't care. I worked with some many decades ago in Guatemala and they were nice people. Unfortunately the Highland Maya got caught in the communist wars against the Government and paid a heavy price for it.
This so-called spokesman sounds like a self-appointed idiot. Perhaps he should recall that human sacrifice was one of his heritages (check out the Well of Souls at Chichen Itza, where sacrifices were thrown into the world's deepest diving pool).
And, in addition, most Mayans would not migrate to the U.S. Their culture is so different from ours that they would have an extremely hard time surviving, no less assimilating.
In other words, this so-called spokesman is full of macaca.
This from people who used to pull the entrails from living people, rip your heart out, and then toss you down the steps like so much garbage --- and they're worried about 'purifying'?
Suddenly blood offends the Mayans?
I agree, I think purifying is an excellent idea, and the weapon of choice should be a MOAB. It's time to 'purify' the Mayans --- again.
"It's time to 'purify' the Mayans --- again."
How very "Spanish Christian" of you.
W should squat and leave a dump on their sacred lands
These stupid Mayans never learn, do they? When a person from a superior culture visits you, STFU!!
I don't think it is buying friendship as much as his attitude that if he keeps being nice to them, they will eventually start being nice in return. That is just not true with many people or nations....Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Putin, etc.
Bush has not learned this yet. While such an attitude may be admirable in one's personal life, it is not appropriate for a leader. Bullies are just emboldened by apparent weakness.
No; and most don't have morals, either.
Satan really hates Christians doesn't he!
A bunch of human sacrificers hating Bush. Oh, I guess with Muslims that is an old story...
I would think that there would be a whole lot of bad spirits hanging around Mayan sites who were POed because their hearts had been cut out of their bodies while they were still alive.
I don't think Bush and his entourage did any human sacrifices...of course, if they had, it would have been just continuing the ancient traditions.
"That a person like (Bush), with the persecution of our migrant brothers in the United States, with the wars he has provoked, is going to walk in our sacred lands, is an offense for the Mayan people and their culture,"
Start by purifying the site of all the heads that lie at the bottom of your altars.
Kind of ironic coming from someone who committed human sacrifice to their 'gods'.
When they're done with that maybe they can "purify" the day-laborer pick-up spot in my neighborhood. Buncha slobs those Mayans.
Will it be broadcast or pay per view?
Don't this just...
Cut yer Heart out!!?!?!?
(Mel; here's a sequel for Apocolypto here!)
Very interesting information, thank you.
