It doesn't look like Rudy Giuliani's two children will have a role in his presidential campaign. According to media reports, the GOP frontrunner's third marriage has alienated his son, Andrew, 21, and daughter, Caroline, 18, from their father.
Giuliani's 21-year-old son, Andrew, told The New York Times that he would be too busy working on his golf game to participate in his father's presidential campaign.
"There's obviously a little problem that exists between me and his wife," the younger Giuliani told the newspaper. "And we're trying to figure that out. But as of right now it's not working as well as we would like."
Giuliani's marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, followed his divorce from Donna Hanover, the mother of Andrew and Caroline.
In 2000, Giuliani announced during a live TV interview that he planned to divorce Hanover. She responded by publicly accusing Giuliani of adultery.
Caroline Giuliani has not spoken publicly, but the Times and New York's tabloid newspapers reported that she was also alienated from her father as a result of his marriage to Nathan.
The New York Daily News reported that Giuliani rarely spends time with his children and that he had failed to attend many important events in their lives, including Andrew's golf tournaments and Caroline's school plays.
Campaigning in Southern California on Monday, Giuliani asked for privacy to deal with the strained relationship with his children.
"My wife Judith is a very loving and caring ... mother and stepmother. She has done everything she can. The responsibility is mine," Giuliani said. "The more privacy I can have for my family, the better we are going to be able to deal with all these difficulties."
Andrew Giuliani is a sophomore at Duke and a member of the school's golf team. Caroline attends a private school in Manhattan. She will attend Harvard University in the fall.
Giuliani holds a huge lead in the polls over GOP presidential rival John McCain, but some political analysts believe the former New York mayor's estrangement from his children and other personal problems is bound to inflict political damage.
Political analyst Charles Cook told Newsday that the latest twist would hurt Giuliani with the GOP's conservative voters.
"This is just going to be one of a thousand cuts," Cook told the newspaper. "This will just sort of fit into a whole constellation of issues that work against someone winning a conservative party's nomination, a party that thinks of itself as a pro-family party. This just makes it really hard."
It doesn't look that auspicious for Rudy.
Well, if CBS is attacking him, that must be a great sign that he is a good guy!
Hmm. That is a confusing signal. Rudy may actually have a great relationship with his kids, since CBS asserts otherwise. You just can't ever know, since they're simply untrustworthy.
I wish the freakout threads would have waited a few months but Rudy is scaring the crap out of a lot of people

Andrew's got the same shaped mouth as his dad.
Bet you a dollar to a donut that Daddy's paying for these expensive educations, and the son is obviously grateful.(end/sarcasm)
I guess that settles it. Rudy really is Andrew's father. :-)
Whatever you think of Rudy, this is disgusting gutter journalism.
The way Rudy's campaign crew handled it is an even scarier glimpse into Mayor Rudeo's underhanded campaign tactics.
Rudeo's family problems broke while visiting Arnie Schwarzenegger.
As Rudy nervously explained his relationship with Andrew to a full court press...... the TV report noted Rudy's campaign aide was sitting with the press corps apparently "posing" as a reporter.
As Rudy finished his shaky answer, his aide then stopped all discussion by throwing Rudy a question on another subject.......as if she was a disinterested reporter.
How'd you like to have this devious crew running your government?
FYI: The news report ended with a poll showing 88% of those polled had a problem with a father not attending his son's graduation.
Does the name Jeff Gannon ring a bell?...

I can not think of any recent president from Roosevelt on, that did not have a turbulent home life.
how the heck do we know what is going on in their family?
maybe Rudy's kid had told him his wife was a bitch and then cursed his father out
maybe the son is still a little prick like he was years ago
maybe the son told him he wanted nothing to do with his father while the wife was still around
maybe the problem in the relationship is more the son's attitude and actions than Rudy's, maybe not
for all you people putting ALL the blame on Rudy while having ZERO knowlage of what has gone on privately in that family is telling
it's their business and all the high and mighty holier than thou Rudy haters sound just like the liberals calling Bush and Cheney everything in the book,, pretty sickening
That's so true, in part.
However, the only reason this is newsworthy is b/c Mayor Rudeo is being packaged for public consumption as St Rudy.
When facts emerge that don't fit the image being spun, it becomes a major story.
That's not the voters' problem. It's Rudeo's problem.
He is human.
Rudy threw himself into the Playboy "Sex is Everything" lifestyle, early-on as he searched for perfect extra-marital sex (while he was mayor, and while he was still married).
Within six months of being elected Mayor, Rudy's photo was splashed on the front page of the New York Daily News buying clothing for Christyne Lategano, his "mayoral aide" (that's kinda like being a WH intern but with New York-style kneepads).
Giuliani in heat was anything but subtle. He took girlfriend Lategano to baseball games WITH his kids, until his wife had had it----news pictures still exist of Lategano and the married Mayor in restaurants across the city (not having sex, though. That came after the photogs left, and in City Hall, no less, according to Hanover's own eyewitness report after a surprise visit to her husband's City Hall office).
Lategano may have been hot in a tight clinch, but she was widely disliked for her rank incompetence and arrogance. Giuliani finally dumped her for newer sexual thrills, but she got paid off for heating up the Mayor's libido with an apartment and a cushy city job, arranged when Rudy dumped his appointee and loyalist, liberal honcho, Fran Reiter, from the job so Lategano could run the city's Tourist and Visitor's Bureau at $250K a year.
By 1998, Rudy had a new mistress (now his wife) and apparently was in the throes of sexual Valhalla, getting sexually blitzed every chance he could as a busy big-city Mayor. He took his sexual plaything to a restaurant a few blocks from Gracie Mansion--so that his children and their friends would know about it. By 2000, Rudy's sex life was getting lots of newsplay. Married Rudy was squiring his mistress to city parades and other Mayoral public events. (As one astute FReeper noted---goodness, gracious, great balls of fire. The thrills just never let up for the gun-grabbing mayor.)
Rudy then called a press coonference to publicly announce his separation from his wife EXCEPT THAT HE HAD NOT BOTHERED TO TELL HANOVER BEFOREHAND. Nice guy. Rudy then publicly announced to the press his separation from his wife WITHOUT EVEN TELLING HANOVER. At the time, Rudy was taking his mistress---not his wife--- to cancer treatment sessions. He never bothered to tell his wife about his illness. Rudy then decided he could not live with his sex playmate out of his reach, and planned to bring his mistress into the Mayoral home (on the spurious claim that Hanover wasn't helping him through cancer treatments---an illness he had not even bothered to tell his wife about).
Rudy announced he wanted to "divide the mayoral home" in two, for his wife AND mistress---a transparent ploy to force his wife and children out into the streets. Hanover was forced to go to court to declare Gracie Mansion the marital home so as to exclude Rudy's sex playmate. The judge acquiesced to Hanover's plea.
Thwarted but not defeated, Rudy moved in with a happily civil unioned gay couple (apparently also in the throes of sexual blitz-dom), while his wife fended off his relentless efforts to ditch her. On Mother's day 2000, while still married, Rudy publicly paraded his mistress up and down Second Avenue for newspaper pictures. The evilness of this marital betrayal astonished even blase New Yorkers.
Giuliani's vendetta against his wife and children was still not sated. He cut the mother of his children's official security detail......but he provided government security to his mistress who had no {{ahem}} official duties unless you consider getting Rudy sexually blitzed to be an "official duty".
BTW -- the kid wasn't even seven years old when he was horsing around at his father's 1993 inauguration, so maybe you should cut him a little slack instead of calling him a "little pr!ck" like that.
Agreed, yet I cant help but think Rudy brought it on himself. You dont do what he did to the mother of his kids. Divorce is ugly enough and they way he went about it was even more disgusting.
I'm sure the kids hear all the grief of the ex-wife, their mother. Of course they are angry at Rudy. Whereas Judy's daughter treats him differently because she sees how good he is to her mother.
It's not really so hard to figure out.
Judy's daughter lives with her father. She chose to live with her father at age 16.
