Rep. Duncan Hunter (R.-Calif.) reinforced his image as advocate for a muscular defense system and security hawk in his morning speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference today.
Hunter devoted a large portion of his speech advocating for a larger industrial military complex.
He said that in with todays testy political climate a trade policy honed by former President Ronald Reagan was called for.
We are going to have a new policy when it comes to trade, he said. Trust, but verify.
He worried that too many foreign countries were producing our military resources to the detriment of American security.
As Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, when IEDs started hurting our troops in Iraq and we sent teams to find some high-grade steel [to help protect them]. I found one company that makes it .When a company in Switzerland cut off our smart bombs, only one company in American could make that tiny guidance system for our smart bombs.
Hunter also spoke of his work securing the border in San Diego. The reason they came is because everyone in the world has a television set and they know the border is open.
He was the architect of the House legislation to construct a 700-mile fence along the southern border.
We built that fence in San Diego, a double fence. Before that fence it was no mans land, he said.
Now, by FBI statistics the crime rate fell by more than 50 percent, he told the audience.
Hunter was the representative who wrote the House bill to construct 700-miles of fence along the southern border.
So, lets build that fence! he said. The crowd whooped and yelled before rising to give him a standing ovation.
If elected President Hunter promised to pardon Border Agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos also earned him a standing ovation.
He ended his speech with a promise to also appoint pro-life conservative judges to the Supreme Court if elected. He said, America is a great nation because America is a good nation. And our goodness comes from our belief in God and the corresponding belief in human life.
Two years before the primaries, GW Bush was just a blip on the radar, McCain was the accepted winner. I would love to see a duplication of that rise to the front with Duncan Hunter.

PING
I am a Rudybot, however I wish they had placed Hunter somewhere else on the scehdule I would have liked to have heard him speak. Huckabee just finished up, very well spoken he sounds like a good VP candidate.
Duncan has my full support.. I hope he wins...

He did well last night in the SC straw poll, and I am just saying as he is one of the candidates I think he should have been given a better time slot.
NAFTA & GATT should never have passed. The One Worlders got their way and they're still with us, killing our ability to produce goods and protect ourselves. GO Duncan!

Ah, Duncan. It's like music to my ears.
The lack-of-name-recognition ended right there.
Hunter is in. McCain is out.
I saw Newt's video up at YouTube. Anyone get Duncan Hunter's?
Whats wrong, can't you liberals get up by 8:30 in the morning?
Between the unions and the environmentalists most of our raw materials and the equipment to manufacture is now purchased from foriegn sources, much of it from potential enemies.
This country can be almost totally shut down if those supplies were denied.
Funny! However it wasnt televised, nor was it up on the CSPAN website...

YOU WILL!!!!!
How does speaking at CPAC work? Does CPAC pay people to speak, people pay to speak at the conference, just invite only, terms and conditions?
..it's criminal that C-Span decided that a tour of the Presidential Gallery was more important at 8:00 AM...
