Rush: Drive-By Media Out to Get Mitt Romney
Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | 1/26/07 | Sevenbak

RUSH: This is unbelievable! How many wives has Romney had? He may be the one guy in the race that's only had one. Rudy's been divorced. McCain's been divorced. I don't know about some of the others, but why are they doing this? You might ask: Why this kind of a hit piece on Mitt Romney? Obviously they're afraid of the guy. They're trying to destroy him. This is just classic Drive-By Media stuff that is designed to cause problems for Romney...

...Let me explain the difference in this Mitt Romney business and the way Democrats are treated in this regard. Ted Kennedy's father -- we're not talking about a great-grandfather or great-great grandfather; we're talking about father. Ted Kennedy's father was a Third Reich sympathizer. Franklin Delano Roosevelt had to pull him as ambassador of the Court of Saint James. (For those of you in Rio Linda, that's Great Britain.) He had to pull him out of there because he was a sympathizer to the Third Reich. Now, we don't hold this against Teddy. Teddy had nothing to do with that. Just as we don't hold Mitt Romney's grandfather, or great-grandfather, against him. But the lib media, the Drive-Bys, are definitely trying to do that. You take a look at who the media really goes after and you've gotta wonder whether there's fear there, fear driving it.

The only thing I hold against Romney is that he's a liberal. Or was, until a few months ago (and may still be) a liberal.

Anyone who makes a career out of politics is a liberal.

Romney made a very succesful career out of business before he became a politician, and he's still a liberal.

The flaming hit pieces on Romney's ancestors contrasts with an obvious question the democrat party Drive-By media never asks:....

"Why do you stay in your utterly sham, bizarre so-called marraige, Mrs. Clinton?"

"Oh, and by the way Mrs. Clinton, are you a lesbian?"

Rush's argument is unsound.

People didn't hold Ted's father against Ted because Ted's father's views were not his own.

People aren't holding Romney's father or grandfather against Romney, they are just afraid that he will govern according to his religious beliefs, which they disagree with.

Even though I'm not a Mormon, I personally would like Romney more if he governed more like a Mormon!

I dont think the media has to destroy Romney. I think he is doing a pretty good job of it himself, with his daily re-inventions of his policies.

I see Romney as very conservative....now that he has gotten out of Massachusetts, he is now free to be a conservative. You should take a deeper look rather than posting tripe like "he is still a liberal". Trashing Republican candidates does none of us any good. They all bring a unique perspective to the debate. Remember that Reagan was a Democrat before he switched to the Republican party.

What did he "re-invent" today? Yesterday?

I agree that his views have flip-flopped to the right, now he's campaigning for the GOP nomination. But if you believe that he simply lied when he said he was anti-second amendmnd, more pro-gay than Ted Kennedy, and pro-abortion, then you're still supporting a liar.

He's either a liar or a liberal or a liberal who has had an epiphany in the last couple of months. Any way you shake it, color me skeptical.

I agree, and that's why they're already trying to bring him down. I don't think Rudy is involved with this, but I strongly suspect the McCain and Clinton camps are involved with the great-grandfather polygamy story...

Actually, I think that Romney is really the best candidate....that is why the media is going allout. They seem to sense this also. I have read nothing yet that convinces me that Romney is not conservative. Apparentaly you have bought into the MSM trying to make you think he is. There is information on this forum to dispute any contention that he was a liberal....please read.

"Romney is the strongest of the Big Three Republican candidates."

Exactly, and the reason he is getting attacked by the left wing media. They are afraid of him.
