NEW YORK (CNN) -- These days, it seems as if it is good politics for conservatives to address the annual convention of gay Republicans.
"Keep pushing the Republican Party because you're pushing it in the right direction," New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told the Log Cabin Republican convention over the weekend.
That is a far cry from the 1992 Republican convention, when the party's far right wing attacked the gay community.
"Bill Clinton and Al Gore represent the most pro-lesbian and pro-gay ticket in history," said Pat Buchanan at the 1992 GOP convention.
The convention crowds responded with enthusiasm. But now, some Republican candidates are taking a less confrontational approach.

"One of your own stated Pat thought Rudy would be a good Pres."
I think they were referring to Pat Robertson actually.

So the question remains, what push are the Log Cabin guys making that Rudy thinks is in the right direction for the GOP?

As long as they are not treasonous like many democrats, they can push their interests. Just expect me to push back.

"Keep pushing the Republican Party because you're pushing it in the right direction," New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told the Log Cabin Republican convention over the weekend.
If he really said this, I don't think he's very seruious about running. I mean, he's giving the social conservatives every reason they need to try to destroy him.

I think what you said mostly makes sense.
I am in favor of state and local level domestic partnership agreements. It is not the same as marriage, one is recognized by the government and the government only, the other is recognized and blessed by god.
An additional point here - I think it would be best if we completely isolated the governmental and religious aspects of marriage. There are gay marriages that are already recognized and blessed by God, just not by the government. In that sense, gay marriage already exists, and will exist or not exist regardless of what the government does. Since marriage is a religious institution, defined differently by different religions, I think government should be left out of it entirely, and we should simply have domestic partnerships for any couple.

THAT is what I'm trying to tell you. And it would answer your question in post 23.
Go to my link and read it. I highlighted the posts for emphasis so you don't have to go through the whole thing.

To be honest I don't know. I hope he clarifies what he meant, if he doesn't and no disrespect to you or others like you, you guys will define it for him.
I think it may have been on the context of pushing the party to being more big tent and inclusive, but I won't speak for him. I'm sure some msm type will ask him what he meant and then we will find out.

Going by your name and tagline, it would seem that you are for limited government, so why do you want government intervention into the definition of religious institutions?
To: LtdGovt
Well its a direct quote, but could be in error. Afterall, it's CNN.

I could get behind that. Civil Marriages that are just recognized by the state, and then Holy Marriage recognized and blessed by god.
Personally, I wish government got out of the marriage business all together, but their are way to many things that are entwined with marriage that the government also involves itself in (usually things they also should not be doing like the income tax).

Does simply not being anti-gay qualify as pro-gay? What is "pro-gay" anyways?

To some merely not hating gays is being pro-gay. In my definition being pro-gay is being in support of affirmative action like preferences and crime legislation that somehow makes their crime better(or worse) then a crime against a straight person. It also means being beholden to their special interest groups.

It doesn't matter if this article is 8 years old or not, can you imagine the commercial the crats will make using this statement.
Picture this: The typical San Francisco fag parade with all the queers in their leather chaps with their butt cheeks hanging out, drag queens on floats, guys swapping spit with each other and then Rudy's statement in a voice over
"Keep pushing the Republican Party because you're pushing it in the right direction,"
ANNOUNCERS VOICE: (real sarcastic) The party of family values? You decide
I can see the crats playing an ad just like this all over the south and the mid-west.
Rudy Guiliani, the candidate that most resembles a fat hanging curve ball.

I don't want government intervention into religious institutions like marriage. Let churches handle them. But I assure you, they are going to use this to destroy him.

How so? The agenda of the GOP is (supposedly) smaller government, lower taxes, free enterprise, and strong national defense. What does being gay have a thing to do with it?
Unless, of course, you're part of that crowd that has been slowly hijacking the party since the 80's to focus on a narrow social agenda that has nothing to do with conservatism, pushing more people out of the party than it is bringing in.
To: spikeytx86
Yeah, Rudy is gay-neutral, not pro-gay.
