Jesus’ burial site found - film claims

The cave in which Jesus Christ was buried has been found in Jerusalem, claim the makers of a new documentary film.

If it proves true, the discovery, which will be revealed at a press conference in New York Monday, could shake up the Christian world as one of the most significant archeological finds in history.

The coffins which, according to the filmmakers held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene will be displayed for the first time on Monday in New York.

Jointly produced by Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici and Oscar winning director James Cameron, the film tells the exciting and tortuous story of the archaeological discovery.

The story starts in 1980 in Jerusalem’s Talpiyot neighborhood, with the discovery of a 2,000 year old cave containing ten coffins. Six of the ten coffins were carved with inscriptions reading the names: Jesua son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Matthew, Jofa (Joseph, identified as Jesus’ brother), Judah son of Jesua (Jesus’ son - the filmmakers claim).

Decades of research

The findings in the cave, including the decipherment of the inscriptions, were first revealed about ten years ago by internationally renowned Israeli archeologist Professor Amos Kloner.

Since their discovery, the caskets were kept in the Israeli Antiquities Authority archive in Beit Shemesh, but now two have been sent to New York for their first public exhibition.

Although the cave was discovered nearly 30 years ago and the casket inscriptions decoded ten years ago, the filmmakers are the first to establish that the cave was in fact the burial site of Jesus and his family.

The film, which documents the stages of the discovery, is the result of three years labor and research. It will be broadcast on the international Discovery Channel, Britain's Channel 4, Canada’s Vision and Israel’s Channel 8, which also took part in the film's production.

According to the filmmakers, the film’s claim is based on close work with world-famous scientists, archeologists, statisticians, DNA specialists and antiquities experts.

Just a question. Has the snow/ice started to recede from Mt. Ararat? I hear that Mt. Kilimanjaro, Fuji and a whole host of other peaks are going to be bare in the near future; I was wondering if we will finally be able to Noah’s ark without the ice problems.

I do not believe that ice has anything to do with it. It is the Turkish authorities and their sad devotion to that death cult that is the problem. Muslims routinely go out of their way to destroy or deface anything that would show their 'religion' to be the fraud everyone else knows it is. By not allowing access to Ararat, the Islamic version of the ark story remains intact. In it, if I recall correctly, Noah and the ark ascend to heaven. See this link for more information on recent attempts to visit Ararat.

LOL!

As I posted, this could be a treasure trove of information about life in Biblical times. Unfortunately, some people want to put their own spin on it and use it to 'disprove' the Bible. Fools. They appear to have the burial site belonging to a family who have some names in common with Jesus's family and some NOT in common.

"The coffins which, according to the filmmakers held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth...."

Coffin? I don't think so.

Please see my other posts on this thread, notably #123. I think we have an interesting archaelogical find that could provide some good information about life in Biblical times, no more. I was not as clear as I should have been in my initial post.

Lets see, so they find a cave with bones that THEY SAY is tracable to Jesus's family and therefore we just have to take them on their word that it would therefore contain the bones of Jesus. Hmmm.......... I wonder if they have a baseline sample of Jesus' bones to distinguish that it was him and not the rest of his family using the tomb he merely rented for 3 days.

Excellent. Well said! Christ's death and resurrection is the best documented, historically proven, fact of history.

Namely, the samples they carbon dated were most likey portions of the shroud that had been repaired and rewoven in the 13th or 14th century after it was severely damaged

My pet theory (about contamination with woodsmoke or finger grease) doesn't appear to be supported by the scientific papers. It is as you say - the threads that were C14 tested were chemically different from the rest of the shroud - the result of "invisible" mending.

It's been pretty well established that the Shroud of Turin is a medieval fraud.

Not so fast. Read the following for the latest research.

I personally believe that Paul's letters point to a philisophical Jesus, which some didn't think would fly, so they used Mark's cover story for the special recipe for the magic Mushroom as the basis for inventing a physical Jesus, per John Allegro's book "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross".

What writings of Paul's point to a "philosophical Jesus"? Is it writings like 1 Corinthians 15:17- " and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins". Or Romans 4:25-"He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification."?

If you want to read books on sacred mushrooms and believe them, that is fine by me. But if the author of that book seriously thinks Paul's writings point to a "philosophical Jesus", then it is obvious he has not read any of them (unless he was on some really good mushrooms at the time).

" ...Fuji and a whole host of other peaks are going to be bare in the near future..."

Moo-sake! I lived in Japan in the early 60's, and my wife and I climbed (hiked all night) to the top of Fuji-San (to see the sunrise from the summit). There was only a trace of snow in shaded crevices in the crater.

The only reason almost all pictures of Fuji show it snow-covered is that the only time Fuji-san is visible from any distance is immediately following cold fronts in the winter. The rest of the time it is shrouded by haze.

And that has been true for centuries.
