So apparently, has this fellow.
Even more so they know nothing about this current President
Now....Harry Truman.... there was a man.
When his War in Korea was going very badly (11,000 Americans killed in 6 months) Truman was "manly" enough to draft thousands more young American men and to censor the press*.
Does anyone think the Democrats would smilingly let Bush censor the Press the way Truman's administration did?
Truman didn't cut and run. He had a few tricks up his sleeve.
6 months and 11,000 US deaths into the Korean War
Truman drafted thousands and censored the press
Listening to Murtha and Levin and reading Senator Lieberman's words....and waiting for Brit (yes Juan Brit is smart)
Senator Lieberman closed with a call for unity, Whatever our differences here in this chamber, about this war, let us never forget the values of freedom and democracy that unite us and for which our troops have given and today give the last full measure of their devotion. Yes, we should vigorously debate and deliberate. That is not only our right, it is our responsibility. But at this difficult juncture, at this moment when a real battle, a critical battle is being waged in Baghdad, as we face a brutal enemy who attacked us on 9/11 and wants to do it again, let us not just shout at one another, but let us reach out to one another to find that measure of unity that can look beyond todays disagreements and secure the nations future and the future of all who will follow us as Americans.
Re post #396, VERY well said!
Lieberman gets it....
Phony strawman. The President can respond without being viewed as some sort of nut. He just needs to state some commonsense facts. The enemy must take some comfort in the House Resolution. And if the war is such a mistake, why would anyone want to sacrifice themselves or a loved one from now on forward?
NOW, 6 months later that SAME President is going to have to go hat in hand and ask that SAME Congress to appropriate money for the War. So WHAT do you suppose the response to the Talk Radio Fantasy President is going to be from the primadonna geeks that run the Congress if he goes out and slimes them now?
Hat in hand? The President has a little more power than that. If the Dems want to operate on a continuing resolution for the next two years, so be it. If they want to withhold funds for DOD, let them do it. Reagan operated most of his Presidency with a Democrat controlled Congress, including a House that was overwhelmingly Dem.
It may feed egos to sit around here scream about how the President should be going out and talking all big and tough too bad for the President but he has to operate in the REAL world, not Talk Radio Fantasy Land.
You keep on constructing these phony strawmen and knocking them down. Bush is not running for reelection. It is not about "going out and talking all big and tough," but rather being blunt and truthful. There are some things that cannot be finessed politically and transcend partisan politics.
You know what the problem is here? The Talk Radio Generation all worship caricature of Reagan. The REAL Reagan spent a whole lot of time kissing these Congressional clown's butts. Talk Radio Fantasy Land Reagan supposedly was over at the Capitol every other day slapping the snot out of the Congress and the "news" Media
Reagan compromised on some issues and not others. He also knew how to use the bully pulpit. I am 63 and not part of the Talk Radio generation. I live in the real world and have seen a lot of it.
Most of all, it was good to hear someone [Tony] finally point out that war is not a neat and tidy event with obvious formulas. War is chaos, and there are always mistakes. That is why war must be the absolutely last resort. But, once the option of war is chosen, it has to be waged without handcuffs and lawyers. [Nothing personal, Bah.] 8)
A+ for Tony
Nailed it again MNJ.
If RR was President today he would be hated by the Walk on Water conservatives worse than Bush is. He was hated then for signing the Salt agreements among other issues including raising taxes by reducing deductions. Could you immagine what they would have said about his immigration bill??
President Bush has been as bold on a number of issues including the war but people would rather complain than back him up.
His legacy would have been pure hatred by talk radio and the internet. He was fortunate to live in the times he did.
Pray for W and Our Troops
How many vetos did Bush exercise prior to 2006? The Rep controlled Congress cooperated with the WH in passing most of the President's agenda. In fact, the Dems called them a rubber stamp Congress.
Sweet Ali! Great work.
Pray for W and Our Troops
But in all fairness....
Truman had a very loyal to the country opposition. The Republicans in Congress then, and not one democrat, would have never gone on record supporting the communists/enemies over our own troops, as they did this week.
The press back then? Don't get me started. What we have now is nothing like it. Even the communists of 1950 were not as rabidly socialist as the DBM today.
SAd, sad,!
If anyone's watching Late Edition, you're probably as surprised as I am to learn Harry Reid learned to swim at a brothel in Searchlight, NV as a youngster. Is that even possible.....or is he using a really bizzare euphemism...?
BUT, but....what about the VICE president? He might get "demonized"??? Seems to me that there's not a whole lot more evil that can be said of Chency by the left, so maybe he should be out there taking names and kicking butt?
YOu are makin' me work waaaay toooo hard!!!
