Rudy Giuliani will prevent a conservative crack-up.
Today, after very little effort, Giuliani is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Dick Morris is predicting a Giuliani vs. Clinton race in 2008. Yet some conservatives are dubious of the man who cleaned up New York, returned it to a vigor unimaginable from the 1960s through the 1980s, and then led New York and the country heroically through 9/11. Well, one knows a politician by the company he keeps, and Giuliani has around him the financial people who created the libertarian-conservative Manhattan Institute. He relied heavily on the Institute's policies while governing New York. He will rely on libertarian-conservative policy makers in his race for the White House and once there.

WE NEED A PAYCHECK! ;-) MORE MONEY MORE MONEY!
And what if we have a stauch pro-choice pubbie as president? Do you think he would use the bully pulpit to continue to persuade people to move away from legalized abortion?
Would he veto a repeal of the PBA ban if the Dems sent it to his desk?
Actually there have been so many joining up its hard to keep track. We have three people keeping track at the same time - between the ones on the posts and the ones on freepmail it's been nonstop!
Oh, my client pays big bucks for me to straighten out such messes. I gave you valuable advice. That and 69 cents will get you any sized coffee at Mickey D's.
That last post was a long one and I didn't want it to continue in some long, run-on (even longer) monologue. But as to guns, yes I can certainly understand why some people would be concerned about Rudy's position on guns.
But given even the Democrats in Congress's reluctance to go after ANY gun issues in recent years, and given how close our margin is in the Congress, I honestly don't believe that Rudy is going to march into the WH and demand gun legislation. It's not going to fly and I don't think he'd even ask for it.
And let me just address another issue. Reagan was a great president and I voted for him twice. But he wasn't perfect and this mythology that other freepers have built around his memory really does a disservice to every other Republican presidential candidate that comes down the pike in the future. Reagan would not want that.
Reagan evolved over time as well. He used to be a Democrat and he signed what was then the most liberal abortion legislation in the nation while he was Governor. He raised taxes 4 times while president. He signed anti-gun legislation while Governor and while President, and he advocated publicly for the Brady Bill when he left office. Granted, he had less of the anti-gun rhetoric than most presidents, but let's not pretend that just getting a social conservative in office is going to prevent any gun legislation because we've seen clearly that hasn't prevent even more gun legislation over time.
That's not the point. What if the Dems get the itch to pass gun legislation and it lands on Rudy's desk? Will the threshhold to have such legislation pass be 50.1 percent? Or 66.67 percent? That is why gun activists are so nervous about Rudy, given his glowing endorsement of assault-weapons bans and stringent handgun restrictions - and his less-than-comforting response to 2nd A questioning on H&C.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!(doin' mah BEST Cary Grant impersonation). :)
Demographics? How is that not a code word for "colored people"?
Thanks for your reply, Peach. It was well thought out and reasoned.
I still am really torn about what I will do if it comes down to Rudy vs. Hitliary. I'm afraid that Republicans are sometimes more able to sneak bad legislation past Congress than Democrats would, but I also think that a reign of Hitliary might be as bad to us as Chavez is for Venzuela.
I can easily see her asking for, and receiving, the "power of decree," and her seizing all industries and media that she disagrees with.

Very little a president says is going to encourage or discourage a woman to have an abortion, believe me.
I do find it interesting that Reagan evolved over time but some people around here just don't want to believe that Rudy has evolved over time regarding PBA.
Anyone with a brain and a heart who can see the new technology would be against PBA. Democrat Daniel Moynihan called PBA infantile genocide, but that was before his party moved left.
Reagan gave us two pro abortion Supreme Court judges so it's a given Rudy won't do worse than that. As well, Rudy has said that he is a strict constructionist and his dream judges are Alito and Roberts. He's worked with Alito and Scalia and admires them both.
Nina on Brit Hume was bashing Mitt today and I think I remember her bashing Rudy and on both occasions, Fred Barnes came through and said it was the liberals who were concerned, not the Evangelical Christians. I'm a born again Catholic and at this point, my only question is, Rudy or Mitt. I'll keep watching and evaluating what they say and whether I believe them. But I refuse to let the liberal bigots tell me to rule them out.
Just keep reading about the candidates and you'll make up your mind in your own time. It's early yet.
When you make something legal and have leaders that venerate "choice", you tend to get a lot more of them.
I do find it interesting that Reagan evolved over time but some people around here just don't want to believe that Rudy has evolved over time regarding PBA.
Reagan signed a bill to legalize abortion for the typical exceptions of incest, rape and life of the mother, only to see doctors exploit the last loophole.
Rudy was so pro-choice that he has gotten awards from NARAL. There is utterly no comparison.
Can you provide me one single example of when a partial-birth abortion would save a mothers life? It is a medical impossibility.
I gotta say, he challenged the race whackos like Sharpton with aplomb, I loved the way he handled them.
And he is very charismatic. I remember once we were at Times Square waiting for the ball to drop and he walked by us, and the whole audience burst out into applause. You never saw that with Dinkins.

Rudy is only tough by New York City standards..
Rudy is liberal therefore weak and mentally unstable..
New York City is addicted; addicted to Slavery by Givernment(socialism)..
America needs tougher than that..
America needs Newt Gingrich.. much tougher than Giuliani..
Newt has weak morals but hard and tough politics.. he is NO SLAVE..
Like Giuliani, Romney, or Mclaim..
LOL! We used to say "that and $1.00 will get you on the subway". of course now it's $2.00.
"I'm sure it's just a clerical error that you haven't been added. I'd hate to think you were trying to make it seem like a bunch more people are signing up for the ping list by repeatedly asking to be added to it time and time again."
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
