The Iranians deliberately are trying to provoke something. If they really were about to destroy Israel, I doubt they'd talk about it (though you never know, "Mein Kampf" and all that). I'm of the opinion they want to provoke the US into an attack on Iran in the (mistaken) belief that we are overstretched and can be beaten and thus forced to withdraw from the entire Middle East. Then Israel would be indeed be easy pickings for them. It's an insane strategy, but I think they are insane.
Maybe this ties in with another very recent post on the huge amount of conventional weapons pouring into Lebanon from Iran. Apparently they judged Israel "weak" after the last engagement.
