Rudy’s Dark Side (barf alert)
msnbc ^ | 2 6 07 | Jonathan Alter

Feb. 6, 2007 - Over the last decade, I’ve seen both good Rudy and bad Rudy up close. The question for voters as he enters the presidential campaign is: which Rudy Giuliani will show up on the trail—and which Rudy would go to work in the White House? And if even a little of the bad Rudy is still around, does that make him temperamentally unsuited to the presidency?

Rudy is polling so high because the rest of the Republican aspirant field is so nondescript.

Run-of-the-mill voters see Giuliani as a pillar of anti-terrorist courage and a tough law-and-order guy, period. He's memorable in that aspect so they mark for him in the polls.

Helping him in the polls is the fact that the average man-on-the-street undoubtedly can't even name more than one other announced Republican presidential hopeful out of the uninspiring gaggle.

Rudy's got a good schtick working for him which is his perceived leadership in tough times.

Except for McCain whose eccentricities and general loonyness are his schtick-in-trade, the question is which Pubbie candidate stands out from the field at this time other than Rudy?

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of all the pro and anti Rudy arguments here on FreeRepublic.

I can't wait for the primaries to start.

Let's get it on! We have Hillary to defeat!!

Regardless of Rudy's pros and cons, the fact is, even though he's a "liberal" by our standards, most of the MSM still thinks he's an eeeeevil fascist Republican.

I'm not a supporter of Rudy, but this silly hit piece reveals the author as a childishly simplistic leftist who has nothing but the same old nonsense to spew.

Yesterday - the "more conservative than thou" crowd were claiming that the LameStream Media was all gaga over Rudy. How do they explain this article?

I'm sure I already know their answer - it's a double bluff - the liberal media is just PRETENDING to badmouth Rudy for some nefarious reason.

I am not a rabid Rudy supporter - but these posters who think we need a far-right candidate to win in 2008 simply do not understand where the MAJORITY of American's political whims lie - they WANT a Centrist - they do not want a far right nor a far left President. Neither the far left nor the far right will ever understand that.

I'm not rabid against Giuliani. Actually I admire many many things about him. I just don't see him as conservative. (Moderate at best) And his social issues are aproblem.

I like Duncan Hunter. If not Duncan... I don't know...

If you are a Freeper supporting Duncan Hunter please make your voice heard in this poll!!!

Let's see...Rudy, a gun grabber who has publicly stated he believes these things should be left to the State...OR Hillary Clinton a self-professed and proud gun grabber who will take your guns, appoint liberal supreme court judges, will hand our country over to the jihadists AND raise your taxes. We won't even mention the man she brings with her who you will be seeing on your TV everynight for at least four years. You're right, don't vote for Rudy.

No - that's your opinion .. which is quite different.

You can choose to believe and vote anyway you want. But .. don't tell me I'm a stupid fool for believing something entirely different.

And .. it is "bashing" when you are convinced your opinion is the be all end all of information and knowledge. Get over yourself.

There aren't multiple truths. Rudy's own words show him to be a liberal--and an egregious one at that.

I don't recall calling you anything so harsh as a "stupid fool" but I do maintain that anyone who believes that by supporting Rudy they are somehow advancing conservatism, they are at best living in a fool's paradise. And .. it is "bashing" when you are convinced your opinion is the be all end all of information and knowledge.

We couldn't get the numbers in '06 to hold on to the House and Senate. Isn't it better to take states like NY, NJ, PA and Florida and pull off a decisive win and at least hold on to the White House? The rats will do far more damage in 4 years than Giuliani ever will. I think he'll come around and work with us.

#1. Rudy is not a centrist. He's a liberal. He will split the GOP wide open as the nominee for president.

#2. Rudy will be a dead-duck as the Republican nominee if (God forbid!) he gets that far. Why? Because the MSM will "Foley" him to death--portray him as what he is: an out-and-out liberal whose words and antics are like poison to social conservatives. By the time they're done, Hillary will be able to run to his right--and the MSM won't have to lie that much to get him there.

As one New Jersean to another, tell me--how has it worked out for us nominating liberal after liberal to run against the Dem machine here? Answer: it hasn't. It worked only with Christie Whitmann and we're still paying for her disastrous tenure with all the liberals she advanced into leadership positions in the GOP state party. Do you really want the national GOP to look like that?

Wel .. good luck with your campaign against Rudy.

Thanks. The ultimate goal is to get a conservative elected president. Rudy does not help advance that agenda one iota.

IIRC, "life of the mother" is not and never has been relevant to partial-birth abortion. There simply are no cases where it could or would be used for such a purpose. If the woman is up to a partial-birth abortion, she's up to a live birth.

Its sort of like "cases of rape or or incest" for abortions in general - abortions for cases of rape or incest are vanishingly small part of the "industry."
