New York, NY (AHN) - Former Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani may have ran the Big Apple as a Republican, but in his official papers as part of his possible presidential run, the section for the candidate's political party was left blank.
When confronted about the omission by a newspaper, a lawyer for the campaign says it was the team's "judgment that we didn't have to fill in that box," leading some to speculate that Giuliani may be considering leaving the GOP and running as an Independent.
Giuliani spokeswoman Katie Levinson dismisses such rumors, saying, "The mayor continues to be a proud member of the Republican Party, and we are extremely encouraged by the response from Republicans across the country to his potential run for president."
Also, upon further questioning by newspaper Newsday, the campaign says it fixed the omission, and has listed the former Mayor as a Republican.
However, according to the paper, that form couldn't be found on the Federal Election Commission Web site.
Your evidence?
In NY State, "Republican" is the RINO category. They also have a "Conservative" party for, well, actual conservatives.
I don't blame Rudy, or anyone else, from running away from the label Republican.
This story is just dumb.
Why one earth would Giuliani want to run as an independent when he is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination at this time?
Newsday is one of the most dishonest liberal rags in the country, and this is about the 90th attack on Giuliani by the liberal press. That's how much they love him and want to help the Republicans.
From what I know of Mr. Hunter so far, that would work for me.
The problem I have with Rudy, other than being a social liberal, is that he was pitched a softball on Larry King. King asked him in July, the day London plot was discovered, what do you do with people who don't care about their own lives.
He could not use the word 'kill' or 'destroy'. I could never vote for some one like that in the primaries.
Hillary would/could/will.
Hi...I just want to let you know...that on Sunday night at 8:00 PM ET...on C-span..there will be an hours Q & A with Sen. Tom Coburn.
I know that is the night of the Super Bowl...but I believe it is repeated later in the evening.
Just FYI
My husband just said the same thing.
History repeats it's self.
It is only a theory. But whoever the eventual GOP nominee is, it will take a split of the liberals to win the Presidency. I wouldn't be surprised if Giuliani is the straw man as part of a deal to guarantee a Republican victory, even if not for himself. In order for the GOP to win in 2008, they need a reversal of the 1992 and 1996 elections, a split of the Democrat vote.
You are correct.
He was all too happy to let her get reelected as his senator...
Thanks! Will probably tape the program!
Giuliani's government filings don't lend hints to his presidential run - he hasn't submitted a declaration form or checked the Republican box
After all, "its" just a mistake.
If so, then the puppet masters must be using him to give the election to her unroyal lowness her hideous heinous . . . Shrillery . . .
God have mercy on us all.
Good point. So you're saying that the Republican base must be prepared to compromise some of their cherished positions to keep the White House. That's an interesting scenario. What is most important to Republicans, to maintain the reins of government and get some of our programs passed, or to lose the election and get none of our programs passed?
"Why one earth would Giuliani want to run as an independent when he is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination at this time?"
Exactly! McCain is tanking now so Guiliani is in better shape politically. I think the Republican nomination is practically his for the asking.
