How al-Qaida Fared in 2006
-Full Story-

In 2006, agents of al-Qaida, as well as those inspired by its ideology, continued their attacks. Violence in Iraq intensified, and Afghanistan saw its bloodiest year since 2001.

Despite worsening chaos on those fronts, counterterrorist forces arrested and killed high-profile terrorists and kept the West free from attack. But these actions don't appear to have weakened the appeal of al-Qaida's agenda. "Home-grown" militants around the world joined its jihad, as regional fighting heightened perceptions of a global war on Islam.

FBI Launches E-Mail Alerts on Public Website

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched a service that sends out electronic mail (e-mail) alerts when new and vital information is posted on the FBI.gov Web site.

Subscribers select which topics that they want updates on, such as new electronic scams (e-scams) and warnings, most wanted terrorists, top ten fugitives, and local and national press releases. The alerts are transmitted as soon as updates are posted to the FBI's Web site or published in their daily, weekly, or monthly digests.

The FBI views this service as a means of furthering American citizens' safety by keeping them informed. No personal information is required to sign up for this service, just an e-mail address to where the alerts will be sent. To sign up for the service please visit the www.FBI.gov."

Kosovo Albanians implicated in Athens bomb attack

At least two independent sources confirm that the Chinese-built RPG-7 rocket propelled grenade that was fired at the US Embassy in Athens on January 12, 2007, was supplied to the leftist Greek terrorist organization, Revolutionary Struggle, by a Kosovo Muslim Albanian militant group that was officially renamed in 1999 by the NATO troops from a Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA/UCK) to the Kosovo Protection Corps.

"Concrete facts show that destroying Israel is possible," said the diplomat, in a speech during celebrations of the 28th anniversary of the 1979 Iranian revolution. "I hope I will be able to celebrate the next anniversary of the Islamic revolution in Palestine, as some elements and facts show that the destruction of the Zionist state is not only possible but imminent," he said.

The diplomat also expressed the hope that "with the destruction in the coming future of Israel, all Palestinian refugees will be able to return to the homes they were chased from half a century ago."

House Church Prayer Meeting Raided in Jiangsu Province, China

MIDLAND, TX (ANS) -- China Aid Association (CAA) has revealed that Chinese police raided a House Church Christian prayer meeting in Jiangsu province at 10:40am February 7, 2007.

A CAA news release, made available to ANS, says, “The local police from Shanghuang Township, Suyang City, Jiangsu Province, along with officials from Suyang Religious Bureau and National Security Protection Squad under Suyang Police Bureau, raided a Christian prayer meeting of over twenty believers held in the home of Tan Jianwei, No.15, Gangxi Village, Shanghuang Town.

“While the Christians were engaged in prayer, the police interrupted the meeting without showing ID. The police took individual pictures of these Christians and asked them to write their names for identification purposes. The Christians who refused to write their names were subsequently beaten. Without a search warrant, the police searched the house of Tan Jianwei, singling out and confiscating his Christian books without leaving a record of the books confiscated.”

The release goes on to say that Tan Jianwei (male, 36 years old), his wife Qin Qing and another lady named Yin Yanling (42 years old), were taken to Shanghuang Town Police Station for interrogation without a summons. The police forced Tan Jianwei, his wife and Yin Yanling to write a promise to cease holding religious activities in Tan Jianwei's house on threat of criminal detention and severe beatings.

“Five people directed this raid: Peng Luzhong, head of the National Security Protection Squad under Suyang police bureau Policeman Zhang Weifeng, policemen from Shanghuang police station, Zhong Linjun (ID 059442), Bi Qingxi (ID 058869), and Lu from Suyang religion Bureau,” the CAA release concluded.
