ARTICLE SNIPPET: "3. Hezbollah's laying the charges near the blue line is the first of that type of event to occur since the end of the second Lebanon war. The charges were unprofessionally placed by Hezbollah in a chain, enabling the IDF to discover them. Exploiting the current stormy weather, Hezbollah apparently positioned them during the past few days."

Failed London bomber studied Osama tapes
2/7/2007, 12:04 p.m. ET
By TARIQ PANJA
The Associated Press
LONDON (AP) A man accused of planning to detonate a bomb on London's transportation system often spoke about martyrdom and listened to the speeches of Osama bin Laden and radical preachers, a witness testified Wednesday.
Muktar Said Ibrahim, 29, is one of six men accused of plotting to detonate explosives on four subway trains and a bus, two weeks after four suicide bombers killed 52 commuters in London in July 2005.
The witness described as a former roommate of Ibrahim testified from behind a screen to protect his identity and was identified by the alias Michael Bexhill. He said the suspect often watched extremist films, showing "martyrs" reading their wills and graphic video of people dying.
He would also discuss fighting those who were against jihad, including the British, Americans and Russians and listened to speeches by bin Laden and London-based radical preacher Abu Hamza al-Masri, Bexhill said.
Ibrahim harbored "fanatical" and "radical" religious views, the witness told Woolwich Crown Court.
"Actually he used to speak about jihad and he used to be against those people who did not like people doing jihadi actions," he said.
When asked to explain "jihad" by prosecutor Nigel Sweeney, he replied: "Fighting against those people who are killing Muslim people."
"He mentioned also the British army are killing Muslims people, so he has to fight against them," he said.
Bexhill said he came to Britain in 2001 to study English in East Sussex, south of London, before moving to the capital in 2004, when he met another defendant, Adel Yahya. Yahya offered him a room at Ibrahim's home, where he stayed for three months, he said.
Bexhill told the jury of nine women and three men that Ibrahim had been "trained" in Sudan and learned how to use a rocket-propelled grenade.
He said after he moved out of Ibrahim's flat, the alleged bomber told him he was going to complete the Muslim hajj pilgrimage and then go "for jihad."
"Muktar Ibrahim told me that maybe I wouldn't see him again, maybe we are going to see each other in heaven," Bexhill said.
Ibrahim; Ramzi Mohamed, 25; Yassin Omar, 26; Manfu Asiedu, 33; Yahya, 24; and Hussain Osman, 28 all from London deny charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions.
Omar, Yahya, Ibrahim and a man named Hakhim went to a training camp in Scotland with a large number of friends in summer 2004, Bexhill said.
"They were doing some training, but without weapons so they could prepare to go to jihad in Afghanistan or in Iraq," he said.
Responding to Sweeney's question about the purpose of the group's trip to Scotland, Bexhill replied: "Preparing themselves for jihad."

Suspected Bombers Captured; Insurgent Attack Kills 3 Iraqi Children
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2007 Coalition forces nabbed two suspected al Qaeda-affiliated bombers during a morning raid in west Taji, Iraq, today, military officials reported, while three Iraqi children were killed and a dozen other residents were wounded today as the result of a insurgent mortar attack on a village north of Baghdad.
Coalition troops entered the targeted building and detained the two suspects without incident. Several weapons and materials commonly used to make IEDs were found.
The building was blown up to prevent it from being used as a terrorist safe house. Before placing the charges, coalition forces escorted two women and nine children outside the house and to a neighbor's home to ensure their safety.
During the incident in which the Iraqi children were killed, insurgents had fired three 120 mm mortar rounds into the village of Mzerat, Iraq. Twelve other village residents were wounded in the attack.
American soldiers responded to provide medical aid to the injured villagers and also secured the area.
In other news, Iraqi soldiers detained a suspected agent for foreign fighters in Iraq during a raid in the al Qaim region near the Syrian border yesterday. The suspect is accused of gathering information on Iraqi and coalition military operations and providing it to foreign fighters.
Also, Iraqi and U.S. forces teamed up to clear some northeast Baghdad neighborhoods of insurgent activity during a series of raids conducted yesterday.
Iraqi troops from the 1st Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, and three battalions of U.S. soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Division participated in the raids, which netted 20 suspects, some sidearms and anti-Iraqi propaganda. The detainees are in coalition custody for further questioning.
"Today's clearing operations were precision strikes aimed at known or suspected terrorist hideouts and weapons cache sites," Col. Steve Townsend, commander of 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, said.
Additionally, coalition forces used guided munitions to terminate an insurgent attack that occurred near Khalidiyah Feb. 5.
After having a vehicle hit by an insurgent-launched rocket-propelled grenade and taking small-arms fire from a nearby building, coalition forces used guided munitions against the attackers. The weapon struck the building, destroying it.
Insurgents inside another, adjacent, building continued to fire on the coalition troops. Guided munitions were employed again to destroy the second building, ending the attack.

Troops Nab Two in Afghan Raid; Terrorists Killed in Convoy Attack
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2007 Coalition troops based in Afghanistan captured two suspected al Qaeda operatives during a morning raid in Nangarhar province today, military officials reported, while elsewhere in Afghanistan today a coalition convey blunted an insurgent attack, killing two terrorists.
The two suspected al Qaeda members were taken into custody during an early morning raid by coalition forces near the town of Hakimabad in Nangarhar province, officials said.
The raid was conducted based on a tip about an individual in Afghanistan who was known to pass information to senior al Qaeda leaders, officials said. The suspects are being held for questioning to determine the extent of their association with al Qaeda.
The insurgent attack on a coalition convoy occurred four kilometers north of the town of Mizan, in Zabul province. Insurgents attacked the convoy with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
Convoy personnel engaged the attackers with small-arms fire, killing one enemy combatant and injuring another. Coalition medical personnel provided medical care to the injured enemy at the scene, but he died of his wounds before being evacuated to a treatment facility.
Three coalition personnel are being treated for non-life-threatening wounds suffered during the attack.
Additionally, Afghan National Police discovered an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Kunar province yesterday.
The police secured the site and called for a coalition forces explosive ordnance disposal team. The EOD team arrived and blew up the IED on site.
