More voters say they would be comfortable with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani as president than other top 2008 contenders, though majorities would also be comfortable with other leaders from both parties, according to the latest FOX News Poll. In addition, of all the 2008 hopefuls announced or frequently mentioned as a possibility voters want to hear more from one candidate specifically: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from January 30 to January 31. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

"Unless a guy like Duncan Hunter can pull off an upset of historical proportions, never before equaled."
Has there ever been a former mayor elected for POTUS?
Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.
KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.
JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.
KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.
GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.
Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.

It must be great having that table to post all over FR. You don't have to think another original thought through Nov. 2008.
And Reagan signed the Brady Bill. Cry me a river.

"Where have all the CONSERVATIVES gone?? Oh, I forgot, they got bought off with the political power of socialism and the lure of liberalism.
Forget I asked...."
Here I am, and there's a lot of us, but we have to fight very hard by giving $$ to conservative candidates, calling talk shows, writing letters to editors, and, of course, posting on FreeRepublic.com - the No. 1 conservative, political posting board in the nation.
DUNCAN HUNTER FOR PRESIDENT!
[snicker]
Chicago has a similar event.
Until quite recently, the general public had NO idea that these events even took place, let alone who was there or what took place at them.
Anybody who supports the murder of little, unborn infants is a murderer, and I will not vote for him/her under any circumstance!
Name one, just one, who is now part of the field, who has a chance ( that means the financial and political backing, name recognition, has already begun to set up nation wide teams, etc. ) of wining the primary.
"Play all the games you want too with words friend. I don't care. I don't vote for liberals, Rudy, Hillary or you. I don't care. I will vote for a conservative. Even if it is a person from another party. I am not married to the GOP."
Thank you..... No one here is running off to vote for a Liberal. We vote Conservative. Everyone on this forum, and I am being pretty Conservative in my estimate will vote for a Conservative over Rudy or McCain. Not the point.
Conservatives are Republicans but Republicans aren't necessarily Conservative. That's what killed us this election, the Chafee's of the party.
What many on this forum are concerned with, me included is what happens if a moderate Republican wins the nomination. A Rudy or a McCain. What do we as Conservatives do then?
I contend that I will vote for Rudy in that case. I will not stay home and play into the RATS game of splitting the Republicans. It's something that many on this forum, you and I included will have to come to grips with because it is a good possibility.
"It must be great having that table to post all over FR. You don't have to think another original thought through Nov. 2008."
Keep up the good work "Spiff." Let's make sure all CONSERVATIVES see it.
"My2Cents," maybe the Dem Party is the party for you AND Giuliani. But we won't give up on you. There's time to get you to become a conservative. :)
I'm surprise this figure is only 9%.
I will repeat, once again, my position. I like the guy. I think he is genuine in his beliefs even when I disagree with them. I respect that. The MSM is pushing him for President because it will be a disaster for all non democratic party supporters, this I believe as well. I like the guy for VP due to his name recognition and worst case scenario he could handle the general WOT. I think we should let more candidates in at this stage.
Then you must be right, he walks the streets of NY in drag all the time! Its just a secret we NYers dont like to talk about!!!! In fact we are all in drag!
Are you really as dense as you appear?
Thanks, I wasn't sure if he attended every year or if all mayors did. But, I do recall seeing it on the news and it was all in fun.
The $2.0 billion deficit Rudy left behind was based on his own administrations pre-9/11 fiscal projections. Adding to an increase in the overall city debt to $42 billion.
Outsourcing can be good and it can be bad. In the case of Rudy`s farming out of city related services, it was a mixed bag at best. The spike in costs for farming out city services was costly and directly contributed to a failure to reduce spending and the scope of city government.
Those aren't my remarks. They come from the Manhattan Institute. A non-profit NYC policy think tank that had friendly relations with Mayor Giuliani.
Are you serious? Are you calling conservatives socialists?
