PETA Worker Apologizes for Dumping Animals in North Carolina

WINTON, N.C. — An animal-rights worker charged with dumping the bodies of euthanized dogs and cats apologized in court Thursday, saying she left the carcasses in a trash bin because they stank.

Adria J. Hinkle denied, however, that she had ever promised overwhelmed animal shelters in northeastern North Carolina that the animals taken by her group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, would not be euthanized.

Both sides rested Thursday afternoon after Hinkle and Andrew B. Cook, both PETA workers, testified in their own defense. They were arrested in June 2005, after police said they saw them dump bags of dead animals and found more dead animals in their van.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Friday.

Superior Court Judge Cy Grant said Thursday afternoon he would submit only some of the charges filed by prosecutors to the jury, which will now consider eight misdemeanor counts of counts of animal cruelty - instead of the 21 felony counts listed on the original indictment - against both defendants.

There are numerous no kill alternatives. They took these animals to kill and dispose of them as opposed to finding homes.

Headline should read "PETA Animal Rights Activists Caught in Dog-Killing Scheme."

Does N.C. have a provision where the Judge can throw out the Jury verdict he disagrees with?

I have a strange gut feeling about this.

Same thing happens to most of the stuff people think they're sorting for "recycling". This was North Carolina, right? I'm sure John Edwards can find a suitable burial ground for PETA's cast offs on his 120 acre estate, you know, a little bit of the "Other America" he loves so much.

Bad publicity for PeTA is a good thing.

Didn't the FBI investigation label them a terrorist group? How can terrorist not intend malice?

I wonder if they or their liberal supporters are anti-death penalty (for humans)?

"We're obviously are relieved that most of the felonies have been reduced," said Kathy Guillermo, a PETA spokeswoman from Modesto, California "These are two people who have dedicated their lives to helping animals."

Helping? Helping?!? I sure hope these two don't get sentenced to Community Service helping out at a hospital!

Yes, in their minds the animal doesn't "suffer" if it's killed than if it lingers in an animal shelter. Typical lib logic.

PETA is a collection of lunatics hell bent on killing your pet. They don't believe in pets, they call them slaves. This group of lunatics can go f*** themselves, I hate them with a passion.

These perps should go to jail for numerous counts of animal cruelty.

After what we saw in the Nifong/Duke Lax players case, nothing that happened in this case would surprise me. Any 'strange gut feelings' you may have about this case would not be unwarranted.

While P.E.T.A. claims, above all else, an ethical concern for animal welfare, their real interest is people -- how much they hate them, how much they can hurt them and how much they can dominate their lives through intimidation. The P.E.T.A. folks are really sick people -- and, sometimes, dangerously sick people.

I guess we should have expected the reduced charges. A couple days ago they thought the whole thing might be thrown out. I'm anxious to read about what happened exactly today.

thanks for the ping.

PeTA holds the abortionist credo:

"every dog a wanted pet".

If you want them to support the death penalty, you'd have to get them to chant "Every criminal a wanted felon". (pun intended).
