I happen to dislike people who are cruel to animals and especially cats. Do I get to string him up and borrow my next door neighbor's enormous pit bull?
That would look good on You Tube.

If convicted of the cruelty charge, Miguel faces up to two years in state jail.Only 2 years, how pathetic. Someone who displays that sort of cruelty to an innocent animal should be beheaded.

"A 17-year-old Angleton man..."
A new twist on the normal lib media description I see. Usually, they refer to a 19 year old as a "teenager" or a "boy." But I guess you've gotta kill a human to be treated with kid gloves.

if you must 'off' a stray tom because its doing damage to your property, by all means do so but without joy, fanfare, or making it into some sort of violent pornography....and do it with a minimum of pain and suffering.
I am sure the viking kitty police will flame me now....

Golly, I'm sure we're equally appalled at the vicious slaughter of 3,300 human babies each day too. Oh, wait a minute. No we're not. Babies are garbage; animals are special. Now I get it.
Until they stop the abortuary slaughters, I have some compassion for animal cruelty, but I just can't get serious about it.

OK, so the cat was a stray, and probably its suffering was mercifully short with a pit bull going after it. What is more concerning here is 1) What is this teaching the dog (this sort of thing can only increase aggressiveness, I would imagine), and 2) What kind of person gets a kick out of watching a cat being killed by a dog?

This inhuman jerk should be tied up to a telephone pole planted in the middle of a den full of starving lions.

ANGLETON A 17-year-old Angleton man has been charged with cruelty to animals after he allegedly tied up a stray cat and let the pit bull he got for his birthday tear the cat apart while he videotaped the incident. Just getting the cats that PETA won't get. (/incredibly bad taste)
It's an ugly crime, but it is only an animal. That being said he does need to spend a little time in jail for this, or maybe a few hundred hours of community service in the pound taking care of the dogs and cats.

This sort of thread in FR usually has one or two posts from people who express surprise that others are so concerned about animal abuse when unborn babies or other people are dying, but it's worth noting that people who torment or kill animals like this often move on from the animal kingdom to do the same to human beings.
Anyone who could do this to a stray cat for no reason other than his own entertainment is a truly frightening person - totally devoid of empathy.
To: Diddle E. Squat
Whether or not you like cats is irrelevant. That stray could still belong to someone in that neighborhood. How sick can someone be to watch the suffering of a helpless animal?
This type of behavior is on the rise, influenced by gang initiations, etc. Studies have shown that when little empathy or compassion is shown for anything helpless (animals, children, etc) or no remorse, that the society has deteriorated to very low levels.

If you want to avoid this behavior in your kids, I have a suggestion.
At a very early age, get your kid a pet - a fish or turtle or bird or or mouse or something. Show them how to care for their pet & teach them that they MUST care for the pet or it will die.
As with all pets, it will die. Usually from lack of care. The death of a pet will hurt the child, but it will also teach them valuable lessons about life & death - the fragility of life & how precious & short it is,& their responsibility in helping maintain a life. Hopefully it will teach empathy for animals as well, & respect for all life.
These lessons might not be readily learned, so, get them another pet & another, but not right away. They need to mourn a little bit, so leave the fish tank or the mouse cage on the shelf for a while as a gentle reminder.
Try it. You might raise a better human being, or a Jeff Corwin - both to be proud of.

"He has no remorse," Coleman said of Miguel, "He calmly sat and told us that he doesn't like cats. That's no damn excuse.
I hate cats. But this is just the act of a future murderer.
