ANGLETON A 17-year-old Angleton man has been charged with cruelty to animals after he allegedly tied up a stray cat and let the pit bull he got for his birthday tear the cat apart while he videotaped the incident.
The video ended up on the popular Web site MySpace after he gave the video to friends, but it was quickly yanked.
Paul Miguel will probably be booked today, Angleton police detective Sgt. Kirk Coleman said.
The dog, a brown and white female named Brook, was seized by agents from the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Coleman said. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8 to see whether the dog will be taken from Miguel.
"He has no remorse," Coleman said of Miguel, "He calmly sat and told us that he doesn't like cats.
"He said he likes to take videos and send them to his friends."
The dog was a birthday present for Miguel, who turned 17 on Jan. 8. The incident with the cat took place Thursday, Coleman said.
Angleton police became aware of the incident after getting calls from people who saw the video on the Internet, Coleman said. MySpace has since pulled the video from the Web site.
The cat was a stray that Miguel found in his neighborhood, Coleman said. He said the video shows the dog dismembering the animal.
If convicted of the cruelty charge, Miguel faces up to two years in state jail.
What a sick, sick person. Not only unspeakably cruel but unspeakably stupid.
Sick, indeed.
That would look good on You Tube.
Only 2 years, how pathetic. Someone who displays that sort of cruelty to an innocent animal should be beheaded.
"What a sick, sick person. Not only unspeakably cruel but unspeakably stupid."
Agreed. I also have to wonder about his friends who got their jollies from watching the video.
Why do you need the dog? That's why God gave you nails and teeth.
People like this are the reason God gave us swamps, ropes and alligators.
IMHO, it's just a small step above Clute in the W.T. Department. Although the perp is not technically White Trash, his name is hispanic, but who knows; his actions sound like trash to me.
"A 17-year-old Angleton man..."
A new twist on the normal lib media description I see. Usually, they refer to a 19 year old as a "teenager" or a "boy." But I guess you've gotta kill a human to be treated with kid gloves.
"People like this are the reason God gave us swamps, ropes and alligators."
He should be thrown in cage with a hungry tiger, lion or panther to see how he likes it. Big cats tear their prey to shreds.
if you must 'off' a stray tom because its doing damage to your property, by all means do so but without joy, fanfare, or making it into some sort of violent pornography....and do it with a minimum of pain and suffering.
I am sure the viking kitty police will flame me now....
Golly, I'm sure we're equally appalled at the vicious slaughter of 3,300 human babies each day too. Oh, wait a minute. No we're not. Babies are garbage; animals are special. Now I get it.
Until they stop the abortuary slaughters, I have some compassion for animal cruelty, but I just can't get serious about it.
OK, so the cat was a stray, and probably its suffering was mercifully short with a pit bull going after it. What is more concerning here is 1) What is this teaching the dog (this sort of thing can only increase aggressiveness, I would imagine), and 2) What kind of person gets a kick out of watching a cat being killed by a dog?
This inhuman jerk should be tied up to a telephone pole planted in the middle of a den full of starving lions.
"He has no remorse," Coleman said of Miguel, "He calmly sat and told us that he doesn't like cats."
It looks like we have another who is going grow up into a sick serial killer.
This is so incredibly sick. If one of my sons did this, I'd give him up for adoption.
Just getting the cats that PETA won't get. (/incredibly bad taste)
It's an ugly crime, but it is only an animal. That being said he does need to spend a little time in jail for this, or maybe a few hundred hours of community service in the pound taking care of the dogs and cats.
Well, they say that's how serial killers get started.
